Quick question about a scene - minor spoiler

Maybe I missed something, but there was a scene shortly after Angus is saved, where the local preacher came to his farm and wrote 'November 17' in the sand. He said something to the effect of remember that date, it's significant.

Then it's never referenced again, so is that bad writing or did I miss something. Like, maybe the climactic speech in the stadium was on November 17 and I missed that detail?

reply

I believe it was meant to signify the date that God called Angus to be a minister/preacher/man of god and nothing more .

reply

November 17 was that very day. The "Rev" was marking that day as the day Angus was called by God, or the day he came to the realization that he was called by God.

reply

Yes, but the point is that that is the *only* point.

IOW, there was nothing else in the film that gained significance because it happened to occur also on that date (as might have happened if this had been a fictional plot point).
