Pregnant Woman Attack

Was I the only one who flinched and then sat in stunned shock when that officer hit the pregnant woman in the stomach and she started bleeding? That entire scene, including the reporter trying to help and the cameraman being attacked, literally left me speechless and brought tears down my face. It was so brutal.

If it can go wrong, it will go wrong.

That was a cheap trick by the producer to garner sympathy, it did the opposite for me.

I don't know how you couldn't feel anything for that, but if you didn't, you didn't.

Plenty of real people, including pregnant ones, get caught up as innocent bystanders when riots and violent police actions start unexpectedly. Plenty of pregnant women miscarry when they're subject to severe trauma.

Yes, of course you knew the pregnancy was going to be an issue as soon as she had trouble getting home, but it's ****ing sad that you're in such denial that you attribute it to a "cheap trick" rather than a representation of the plight of many women in real life.

I only caught the second half of the movie but I started right where those riots took off and she was attacked. I couldn't believe it. She is just trying to get home and be safe, yet she gets caught in the crowd and the brutality. It was a to me a true, believable, and extremely powerful scene.

A LOT of people who weren't part of the riot were attacked and/or brutalized. The one that stands out in my mind is the two women trying to find their way around Seattle, pulled into a mini-mart parking lot, and were amazed at what was going on, so the passenger was videotaping. They decided to do what we're taught as children to do when lost: ask a police officer (WRONG MOVE in Seattle!) The cop leaned in, and before they could ask directions, he growled, "VIDEOTAPE THIS!!!" and sprayed them full-on with pepper spray! Many cops covered badges, or took them off, to avoid being ID'd by name/badge number, which is highly illegal. The Seattle police guild president, Rich O'Neill, fully believes that the PUBLIC are the ENEMY, and should not be tolerated in any way. He fully supports officers who brutalize citizens for any reason (including Ian Birk committing cold-blooded MURDER).
