Grab a date and go see the excellent ‘Ghost Town the Movie’

When Dallas and I started dating, I could talk him into going about anywhere I wanted. That lasted about five years.
I guess after the new wore off our relationship, he decided he could pick and choose the events he wanted to participate in. Going to the movies was not one that was on his list of “got to do.”

There aren’t a lot of movies I want to see, but when I do, I have to find myself a movie buddy. I am just not the love-story or tear-jerker type. So it’s difficult to find a girlfriend to go to the movies with because most of them prefer that kind of movie.

In fact, I prefer adventure and blood-and-guts over the mushy stuff.
Thankfully, my brother Kip is usually up for a night out with me. On those nights, we decide on a place to have a tasty dinner, and then we’re off the show. But, if he isn’t available, I can usually come up with someone. When I wanted to see the second “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie, I called on my cousin Jason, and we had a good time. Then when the third came out, Madeline and Caroline were ready to go. Caroline says Captain Jack is hot, and I must agree with her, but Madeline just says he looks dirty. But to each his own, I guess.

When I found out that “Ghost Town the Movie” was showing at Eagles Nest Entertainment, I knew I would have to persuade Dallas to go with me, and after a few days of buttering him up, we went out to Maggie Valley to see it. I wasn’t sure he would be happy sitting through the whole two hours without popcorn, but, to my surprise, he never even mentioned it. The movie was so good he didn’t notice the lack of a snack.

Before we saw it, I was a little skeptical. I suppose I expected it to be an extended version of the Ghost Town in the Sky street fight, and I thought it would have the feel of a locally made (not from Hollywood) movie. But from beginning to end, it was wonderful. Our local actors were very much professional, the plot was easy to follow, and the story was exciting and very interesting. Of course, I won’t tell you who the hero in the story is, but it was my favorite character in the movie.

If you missed the gala opening and haven’t seen the movie yet, this is one you don’t want to miss. The movie shows every Monday, Thursday and Friday through July (except July 19) at 8 p.m., and the cost is $10. If you have fond memories of Ghost Town, you don’t want to miss this movie. Plus, you might even see a neighbor or two in the cast.
