No Voices

Why in the hell would somebody put on a show where there is no dialogue.... Was this all done in a foreign country ? What a sorry show... If it is candid cameraesque they have a lot to learn... C R A P P Y ! Thanks for wasting my time

reply

I'm with you! It was a total waste of my time. I'm just glad I tape it so I could fast forward through most of it. If there is no dialogue, at least have a narrator, like AFV.

reply

I think its alot of old clips of something because the scene with they guy peeing on the people was aired a long time ago on another show. Im guessing this was in another language or something.

I missed it tonight, but I do believe it's the exact same show that airs in Canada (at least the clips in the previews are clips I've seen before, YEARS ago!). The reason there's no dialogue is because the show is filmed in Quebec, which is miltilingual. There's a lot of french mixed in with English, and even though French is Canada's secondary language, I think it's only 20% of Canadians who can hold a conversation in french, lol. So the music in the background is just an easy way to keep people from flipping the channel from confusion.

"Mares are from Venus, Stallions are from Mars, and Geldings are from Heaven."

reply

I thought the same thing, but noticed that the steering wheel was on the left side.

reply

I think this show is dumb also, With A show like canid camer you heare what was going on ? I hate the fake laughing and bad music. I bet this show wont be on the air (here in usa) more than A month, It sucks.

reply

I agree. This show sucks. I tuned in because in the commercials some of the pranks looked funny. But, these people obviously don't realize that the whole point of a hidden camera show is to witness people's reactions to the pranks. If we can't hear their reactions then there's no point. Who cares if it's in French? Just subtitle it. Even people who hate reading subtitles would have to admit that reading subtitles would be better than listening to that awful music.

reply

it's kinda funny.

reply

love this show, used to watch it all the time on youtube before it was taking off. There is no need for voices at all.. I like it the way it is and I'm glad I found it.

reply

I'm glad there's no narrating, there's no real need for it! The jokes/pranks are self explanatory, do you need to have someone walking you through it? I hate the narration on AFV, I don't want to hear his stupid little 'jokes', I just want to watch something that's going to make me laugh. So I love the show the way it is.

reply

I agree with you angel32. I laughed a lot watching this show. Sure, not the most intellectually challenging show, but good for a laugh. I would like to see more "reaction" clips. I watched the show for what it was - silly.

reply

i don't think the op mean narration like afv(i agree with angel on that part. i hate him telling you every little thing that is going on in the scene, like you can't see it for yourself). he means the people's voices. it looks like a great show but the music is really taking alot away from it.

reply

[deleted]

AFV's narration is corny and sometimes just plain retarded. This show is really funny... it makes me laugh, anyway, and it doesn't need a narrator.

reply

are you kidding me? the narrator is the worst part of AFV, both saget and the new guy are ridiculously annoying, it would be way funnier if they just let the clips roll... i don't need some moron trying to tell me what the cat is thinking before it jumps into the pool

one of the great things about this show is that it transcends language barriers... this show can be seen by anyone anywhere in the world without being edited, and they can still laugh... of course, it's obviously not to everyone's taste

reply

Do you really need some host narrating every little thing?

reply

NO VOICES because the skits are filmed in Montreal (where part of the population is french) so I don't think you want to hear french people talk because you wouldnt understand anything and secondly, this show is old. They're just airing it here now, I don't know how it made its way from Canada to America.

reply

It already aired in America on CBC, as Just for Laughs Gags. This show is years old; they aren't even taping new pranks anymore.

reply

Even here in Montreal, where it is filmed, there is music and no talking, although you can sometimes hear the voices a little. Its been around for so long here and all of a sudden it appears on ABC so I was kinda puzzled by that
O_o.

But what you see on ABC is pretty old.

reply

"This show is years old; they aren't even taping new pranks anymore."

Actually, they are. They taped one on the street outside my sister's house a few weeks ago. I was detoured because of their set-up. If you see one in the future featuring a railroad underpass, that's it.

Those of us who speak French and read lips have no problem understanding what they're all saying.

reply

I only want voices so that I can understand some of the pranks. I watch the beginning and am like wtf are they doing?

reply

Well, I think that they rely on the audience to have some intelligence and not need a narrarator. Most of the pranks are very simple

reply

[deleted]

OK. Well the show isnt going to change. It is being shown the way it has FOREVER in Canada. And everyone there (almost) loves it. Its bad enough they had to add some annoying introducer to help the idiots who don't understand what is going on.

And narration?
What?
Its all self-explanatory. Logic. Intelligence.

Quit hating on it. Its just you who doesn't like it.
Shows how accepting Americans are.

reply

Hear hear

By the sounds of this thread, this show seems a little too much for the Americans to comprehend. It's better without dialogue. Dialogue would ruin it, just like Alan Funt's show would have been much better had Funt let the pranks do the work instead of jibbering on.

It is 30 minutes of solid entertainment. You don't need the dialogue to understand what is going on. Except if you are stupid.

reply

Yep. Once again, America rejects something that has been applauded by the rest of the world for many years now.

Just because it doesn't conform to their way of life.

reply

I agree that it doesn't need narration.

With a show like "AFV", i hate it when i hear Tom Bergeron's lame jokes...i feel like punching him in the throat sometimes...actually all the time.

(on a side note, i do like the narration on "Funniest Pets & People" because the writing is way better with a narrator that has the ability to deliver the lines)

And with Just For Laughs, i enjoy the fact that they don't use narration because it allows me to add my own commentary as i watch it. yes, i talk to the tv...it's fun, got a problem with that?

P.S. I am American, and while there are some of my fellow countrymen who just don't "get it", let's not make any generalizations here alright?

reply

I don't think it needs narration, but I think that the actors could at least be miked. Some indoor scenes could easily have everyone involved able to be heard. Most of it was painful to watch due to this.

I hate signatures.

reply

I apologize for generalizing, first off.

But they couldn't put mics on people; they're all French-Canadian, so everyone would be confused when the confused bystander mutters something. Also, those mutterings are usually sacreligious words that aren't "bad" to most, but still not appropriate to a french person's ears.

reply

This show is way better that any Candid camera like show I've seen before.
I like it just the way it is, you don't really need the dialogue. Anyone with a bit of intelligence can get the point without any talking.

reply

I also like this show and I'm American. I can't stand AFV's commentary so I appreciate the lack of it in this show.

reply

I love this show! It is fresh, funny and no dialogue. No dumb hollywood type talking on end over and over again. That gets sooooooooo annoying. I love that it is full of action and the prestuff setting up the prank is all that is needed. PERFECT! Two thumbs up for sure. Hope it wins a ton of awards.

reply

I love the show, it's 10x funnier with no dialogue!

Can you believe that bitch gave me the kids menu?!?!

reply

oooohhh, it has no voices cuz its in a different country!!! okay that makes sence. but still, i hate that retarted carnival music...it really turns me off! this show really could be funny for me but because of the music n how we can't hear ppl's reactions (i understand why now tho...) i just find the show annoying.

reply

I don't think that it has no voices because it is filmed in a different country, was it not also silent in Canada?

As someone mentioned in the reviews on the IMDB page, it is a throwback to the physical humor of silent movies and the miming abilities of Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. I think the entire point is for it to be silent and rely only on visual humor...which is what makes it so great. The actors have to be especially good in order to create the laughs that they get without the aid of dialouge.

Besides, they give you a little demonstration before the skit, showing you what will happen. People just need to pay attention or change the channel.

reply

The show is basically the same stuff as the Canadian version.

It still airs on CBC weekdays before "The Simpsons.

From what I have seen it is the exact same as the original. Same soundtrack.

As it relies on physical comedy there is little need for dialogue.

Some of it is pretty funny and quite mean. Canadians are jerks.

reply

Yup, no dialogue + funny-looking people = filmed in a foreign land LOL

reply

"Funny-looking people?" What sort of people look funny to you, and how is that different from America? o__O;

I like the show. It made me laugh rather than the supposed-to-be-funny clips with dialogue, which are sometimes old/common and forced. And it's not as if hearing the reactions is an absolute requirement...hearing a mailbox move or people giggle in stupor doesn't add that much. I prefer the pranks without the dialogue. They don't take that much to understand, and the carnival music simplifies and kind of mocks them, which I find amusing with the "victim's" final reaction.

reply

No voices = syndication in 101 countries.

"By the sounds of this thread, this show seems a little too much for the Americans to comprehend."

This is the reason why it wasn't aired in the US until recently. Just For Laughs creator admitted that Americans don't get the "European" humour of the show, which is why they needed a narrator specifically for the American show. Considering it's all physical humor, narration is just redundant.

reply

I like the show and for the people who complains about it and think it's a waste of time, no one's got a gun to your head making you watch it!!! i'm pretty sure you have more than one channel... change it dumbass!!!

reply

The reason for they don't talk is obvious....there is no room for it with the constant (and I mean INFINITE NON-STOP) laugh track.

I shieet on this show and everyone associated with it

reply

I belive without the voices that the show works!!

My Name Is Earl & Scrubs are the 2 best shows on TV!!!

reply

I agree. I like it without the voices also.

reply

Is there really a need for voices?

Their facial expressions say it ALL.

If you like this show, and you think it's funny, better just leave this thread now. *** Spoilers follow ***

Personally I'm convinced this show is entirely faked. Watch it with mute on (no sound) and notice how exaggerated the "marks" expressions are, and how they are 10 to 15 feet from four or five large, full-scale cameras, with lights, and yet pretend they are in a mall or office or park. The marks have fresh make-up and hair-cuts, exaggerate their reactions and don't look at or notice the cameras until the end when they are pointed out to them.

The show is filmed in a small part of downtown Mtl, on streets and parks and malls that are partitioned off so the large cameras, lights, production crew, etc can set up, where the paid volunteers can practice looking surprised before the takes are filmed.

Next time you watch this show, use mute (worst laugh track in history) and try to ignore the slick editing back-and-forth they use. Remember that several very large cameras are getting extremely close to the "marks", who make all the requisite reactions right on cue.

reply

That's probably 'cause they have hidden cameras set up all over and then edit the bits of footage together, at least that's how it is on other prank shows. I don't really watch this show to confirm or deny anything. Though according to their Youtube channel, they have over 2000 videos, and say on average they do 3 people per prank, that's a lot of people who would have to keep silent about it. Plus with people carrying cellphones everywhere these days, you'd think they'd be "caught in the act" by now.
