Another...
Out of respect for those who may see this one day, I use spoiler text.
Another film that starts off promising and then loses it's s**t by the 20 minute mark. Devolves into complete wtf as seemingly a different movie begins about two yahoos on a road trip (well one less a yahoo than the other but who so happens to have the most annoying smile\voice I have ever seen\heard. Too bad he's the lead!)
The story about a massacre at a graduation party falls by the wayside. The "found footage" angle, which the films even starts out as being with the usual "Property of so and so Police Department" and the facts as known in courier font, just completely gets swept under the rug. No clean segue from it to the kid in the police station a year later with a totally different tale to tell.
The Bigfoot angle is nonsense as well. Slaves from Spain who devolved to neanderthal like creatures? Yup. Sure.
But aside from that otherworldly scifi bit, the film itself becomes amateur night at the local improv the more and more characters show up for their debut. And as I said, the lead actor is annoying.
Lots of oddness and questions abound. If Travis was so upset over his girlfriend cheating on him with his best friend why not kill her, too?? She vanishes from the movie and never seen again except in flashbacks to the year before's party. And that gets messy too as the time line for the road trip and the massacre are supposed to be a year apart; but if so, then why is Travis still pissed off to the point of murder about Nate sleeping with his girlfriend whom he is apparently not seeing anymore?? Or is he?? Was she killed too in the massacre or did she leave as well?? WELL????
The way the road trip is spliced in it seems like it takes place the next day after the "found footage" party. I had to put it together myself in my head that we were seeing a flashback to the road trip based on the story Travis was presently telling the cops. And that it was recent, not a year ago.
I gave this a 2 rating simply because of the promising opening and there was some nicely shot scenery.
