Another...

Out of respect for those who may see this one day, I use spoiler text.

Another film that starts off promising and then loses it's s**t by the 20 minute mark. Devolves into complete wtf as seemingly a different movie begins about two yahoos on a road trip (well one less a yahoo than the other but who so happens to have the most annoying smile\voice I have ever seen\heard. Too bad he's the lead!)

The story about a massacre at a graduation party falls by the wayside. The "found footage" angle, which the films even starts out as being with the usual "Property of so and so Police Department" and the facts as known in courier font, just completely gets swept under the rug. No clean segue from it to the kid in the police station a year later with a totally different tale to tell.

The Bigfoot angle is nonsense as well. Slaves from Spain who devolved to neanderthal like creatures? Yup. Sure.

But aside from that otherworldly scifi bit, the film itself becomes amateur night at the local improv the more and more characters show up for their debut. And as I said, the lead actor is annoying.

Lots of oddness and questions abound. If Travis was so upset over his girlfriend cheating on him with his best friend why not kill her, too?? She vanishes from the movie and never seen again except in flashbacks to the year before's party. And that gets messy too as the time line for the road trip and the massacre are supposed to be a year apart; but if so, then why is Travis still pissed off to the point of murder about Nate sleeping with his girlfriend whom he is apparently not seeing anymore?? Or is he?? Was she killed too in the massacre or did she leave as well?? WELL????

The way the road trip is spliced in it seems like it takes place the next day after the "found footage" party. I had to put it together myself in my head that we were seeing a flashback to the road trip based on the story Travis was presently telling the cops. And that it was recent, not a year ago.

I gave this a 2 rating simply because of the promising opening and there was some nicely shot scenery.

Yeah the lead character was creepy af. That godawful smile! He looks like a true psychopath when he smiles. Never seen anything like it. I thought the creatures were terrifying, especially when the 2 guys first encountered them just standing in the middle of the road. I would've sh!t my pants!

Yes that one shot in the road of the four creatures and the opening also warrant the two I gave it! The rest of the movie was a mess.

I agree, that was a very creepy shot. The movie just lost it after that, though - as you said, slaves from Spain who, in spite of being chained together naked in a snowstorm managed to adapt to survive in a single generation to the point where they removed their children's tongues (because, you know, slaves have lost all humanity and desire to communicate anyways or something). The gas station with no phone. The crazy arse professor whom Travis "figured out" was also the gas station attendant (egad! what a shock!). The press conference during his class, with openly rude students (did I go to a strangely polite college, or was that ... not normal?). The sasquatch who took his friend but just left him peacefully slumbering in the car.

I always feel harsh when it's a low budget, probably first time filmmaker and crew. But I have confidence they can do better! If they aren't already ... please don't try to tell me this movie with flip-phones and puka shell necklaces came out last year lol.

They're coming to get you, Barbara!

Te fault in most of what I pointed out was in the script. And the apparently local bunch of actors in the supporting roles. So the director may have gone to to bigger and better. I'll have to check out his page here...

Your thoughts on and critiques of movies are consistently well-reasoned and cogent. Granted the bar keeps getting lower due to all the reviews that say little more than 'this movie is dumb' or 'worst movie ever' haha. I'll keep an eye out for your posts in the future!

Thanks! Yeah, those are my fav comments that just make a statement of negativity and then do not back it up, lol.
