This movie makes Billy Zane's performance in 'Demon Knight' look like...

...like it deserved an academy award.

Although, that *is* the standard for which I base all movies I see with Billy Zane in them. And I gotta say, when I saw this I had high hopes of a repeat performance. I loved him in Demon Knight and how sinister yet comedic his performance was.

However, all I can say after viewing him in this movie is, "WHAT THE *beep* BILLY?"

This is the worst movie I have seen in some time. The plot sucked, and the acting was even worse. The dialog at times made me cringe in disbelief and humiliation for the actors who had to actually recite this garbage.

I can't believe that this actually got the green light.

As I said, if you're looking for a DECENT horror flick starring Billy Zane, go watch none other than "Tale from the Crypt's Demon Knight" - and avoid this piece of *beep* at all costs!!!

agreed. just saw it and it was trash of the lowest order.

Double agreed. It started off showing some promise, some funny jokes etc. Then they left the diner and the film just sank into the brown.

It sucked and so far demon night is still his best performance in horror movies.

I really got the impression that Billy Zane was somehow forced to do this movie, like maybe he lost a bet or something. The way he delivered his lines, I kept getting the impression: Right now he's thinking, "I can't believe I have to be in this piece of crap."

I didn't watch any of the DVD extras, but can someone tell me: Do they show any behind the scenes where the director is just off camera pointing a gun at Zane shouting, "Act dammit! Or I swear I'll shoot!"

Looks like viewers' disappointment with THE MAD might have colored their assessment of Billy Zane's performance. Or maybe it's just that too many people enjoy being critical, feeling too smart for their (and as readers, our) own good.

Billy Zane far from walked through his role in this film. He delivered his lines respectably and professionally, and even wittily. The fact that many feel he was dynamic with his Demon Knight role is completely irrelevant; that was an altogether different vehicle, and a different character that he was playing.

To describe this film as "a piece of crap" is unduly harsh. I don't think THE MAD was a successful effort overall, but it wasn't boring, and there were moments that were genuinely funny. I'm sure Billy Zane did not decide to appear in THE MAD because he thought the production was going to be a lesser effort. THE MAD is not, after all, a big-budget Hollywood film where a gigantic salary would have justified such selling out on a star's part -- so Billy Zane must have thought the film would come out as decent. (The only other reason why a sell-out star would choose to appear in "crap" is if the star would be desperate for the cash, no matter the amount, and it's unlikely that Billy Zane is that hard up for the money.) I'm sure he and the filmmakers thought they were achieving something very worthwhile. No doubt some of the lines and ideas of the script sounded better on paper, than the way in which they came across when finally filmed. Thar is always a danger when attempting, especially, comedy.

I wouldn't blame Billy Zane for this film but it is bad. I can see what they were going for with the whole horror comedy but it didn't pay off. I think he did a fine job acting just a bad film.
