The prinicpal was right about one thing
Even though Nasira stated that she wore the head scarf (hijab) out of her own choice, out of a sense of modesty, the principal was right that all the beautiful silk scarves she wore, along with the beautiful makeup she wore as well, was more of a display of feminine beauty than if she hadn't worn anything at all.
Put another way, as I understand (and please correct me if I'm wrong), one of the root purposes of the head-to-toe burka, from which the wearing of the hijab derives, is so as not to inflame men's erotic passions. The way Nasira was doing herself up seemed to me to be exactly contrary to that.
