Hate over Beyonce's voice

Trying to figure out why so many people are making such a big point about her voice. If that's the issue then there are other VOs in the movie that could be "judged" too ethnic or otherwise:

Bufo - (voiced by Cuban American and Rapper/Latin artist Pitbull)
Mub - (voiced by Aziz Ansari, born to Indian Tamil Muslim parents).

I am not judging these or others, just stating the same observations that many have made over one of the main characters.

So where's the "upheaval" over those obvious voices? Just saying. I think her total screentime was less than 10 minutes. Yes, it was not one of the more memorable animated films as it was hyped to appear, and it won't be the last.

Seriously, some people's "opinions" and personal judgments need better tact and maturity. It's a kid's movie and they obviously don't pass judgement about how good or bad someone's voice is for a character!

I don't think people were complaining because she sounded too ethnic (at least not most people), they just complained because they didn't think she did a good job. Also Aziz Anzari doesn't really sound like how you'd think indians would sound like anyway. And, just because kids don't care about acting, doesn't mean you shouldn't do a good performance in a movie. Actors should never phone it in unless it makes sense for the character (like the acting is supposed to be bad).

And by the way, I didn't even think Beyonce did that bad of a job, I'm just saying...

I call movies that are considered 'bad' hated movies.

I just think her voice didnt work. It just sounded wrong and didnt seem to fit. It was almost like a voice over of a foreign animated film rather than to fit it with the character.

reply

Haha...but the snail having a Scottish accent when no-one else does. Huh?

reply

Take the chip off your shoulder, the hate for her voice was not because of her ethnicity. Stop playing the race card.

I wasn't making a point just about her race and I'm not trying to "play" the race card. Just because I mention the point about ethnicity doesn't mean I was being specific about it. I have no chip on my shoulder about race as you so put it. Just stating an observation since others have mentioned how "ghetto" she sounds. Why not state the same to them?

reply

Because what they truly mean by Ghetto is "Stupid" whether your from the ghetto and you are black, white, asian, hispanic, the odds are, you will be highly uneducated. Which is exactly what Beyonce is.

Now that, the meaning of ghetto, I agree with. Thanks for explaining. Seems use of words caused a misunderstanding. Now we understand each others points being made.

Sure, Beyonce is SOOOO uneducated...which is why she makes more money in a MONTH than you will make in your LIFE!

And No, I am not a fan of Beyonce.

only becausecshe is lucky include all other rich people

reply

That's my thought, McQueen but as you said..I guess some people just hate Beyonce.

I love Beyonce as an actress and a singer. But I thought it sounded like she was reading her lines for this part rather than delivering them with the emotion of the character.

reply

I dont believe the issues people have with her voice is because of ethnicity. It is because she is Southern and from Texae and has a distinct dialect. Most people in this country look down on Southerners and consider then uneducated. Which is a stereotype that has existed since the "founding" of this country.

I couldn't care less what the Queen's accent was (as mentioned, there are various accents in the movie). I just think she did a crap job. She was the only voice that stood out as weak. She had very little emotion, like she didn't care, or she just can't act.
I actually liked the character (funny, strong, caring, and initially I was curious to see more of her and her history), but listening to her speak was grating. Very soon I became glad she wasn't in much of the film. It's obvious she was cast for her fame rather than her talent (or lack of).

"Did you, did you need to hear their death agonies to know your... your omnipotence?"

reply

lol. Why does it have to be about race? Beyonce is a no talent hack, in everything she does. Listen to her sing with out filters, auto-tune (and a lyric prompter). Stop playing the race card. Sucks is just sucks.

All I can say is this: Ice Age is awesome and funny, one main reason for that is how energetic Queen Latifa is.

Epic is boring, the queen was boring and bad. They should have casted a better and more professional actress. Period.
