Horrible.. my son fell sleep in the middle of the movie

I saw it yesterday (may 14th) in a advanced screening in Guatemala but let me say that is a horrible movie bur with pristine 3D effects.. The story has been told hundred times in other movies.. Ferngully for example.. the heroes and heroines have no charm.. the villain is very silly... I saw it with my little son (3 years old) and he fell sleep about an hour in the movie.. He gets more entertaining with the trailers of "Turbo" and "Monster University"...
In the other hand, the 3D was an achievement. Sorry but "Epic" will be a forgettable summer movie...

Got a couple story questions, in order to compare to the book.

Does Mary Katherine ever get knocked out in it? In the trailer theres that wake up scene where she thinks she was dreaming but quickly finds out she wasnt. Also, theres a track on the soundtrack called "Kidnapped." Was wondering what the circumstances were behind that.

reply

She get knocked out when she is running out from the bad guys.. She tries to jump high and... well.. you'll see it.. About the song... I don't know... I saw it spanish dubbed but can't remember the song..

I'd say this film is for children older than toddler age. I wouldn't say it was horrible because the tyke fell asleep.

reply

Exactly. Three is still too young for the *vast* majority of movie-goers. Just because a movie is animated definitely does not mean they're old enough to comprehend what's going on (among other things).

You got what you wanted but you lost what you had.

reply

Exactly, i wouldn't want a 3yr old watching South Park.

reply

It was horrible because it was horrible. My wife, my two kids and I all disliked it. My kids like almost any movie, but not this one. For the record, they are both older than toddlers.

reply

Yes, it's horrible because you don't like it.

Try giving it a little more thought as to WHY you guys didn't like it.

I mean, who knows, maybe your family is a couple of hardcore republicans who hate any notion of forests being of value in any way besides harvesting it - then, obviously, you'd hate this movie.

reply

Well I guess you figured us out. My kids and I are pro forest harvesting republicans hired by the timber industry to write negative propaganda against this enlightened wonderful film that could save the world if only us evil industrialists would help promote it, or... maybe we just didn't enjoy the movie.

reply

It was horrible because they hired five screenwriters to write five different versions that had no connections to each other. We start out with the humorless leaf people, then cut to the wacky father, then back to the leaf people, then the (annoying) teen's subplot, then back to the leaf people, then suddenly meet the comic relief -- the slug and snail -- then more drama, darkness, then suddenly a musical number out of nowhere in the middle of this dreck...on and on and on.

We hated it because it was poorly written, poorly executed (except for the typical CGI) and had an embarrassing 'soaring' score that was just laughable.

reply

Not sure what's the deal with some of you but I have to say this was one of the better animated movies I have seen in the last few years and I haven't missed any of the offerings. A solid 9/10 from me. I was able to connect with this movie right from the get go and it hooked me right in.

This movie was great never mind the 3D it's not for everyone but the story and characters were great, your little kid falling asleep...he's a kid. The trailers are extremely short of course he didn't sleep thru those.

reply

I totally agree!!!
This animation was far better than any expectations I had!! ...And the 3d was decent! I simply loved it!

reply

your opinion is not a fact, so stop writing like it is. the heroes do have charm, especially nod and ronin and as a 22 years old, i thought the villain was pretty creepy.
epic is great and it won't be forgettable.

reply

I saw it this afternoon and I've already forgotten it. It's soulless.

reply

If you already forgot it, how did you even think to remember it enough to come onto this site?

reply

why is there always some moron that says stuff like "why are you on this board if you dont like/remember this movie?"

its like you people want to deny allowing opinions. Its like you want the world to smile all the time and be crucified for saying anything negative.

The world doesnt work that way im sorry. People dont like stuff sometimes.

reply

But there's also the morons who come on to this site only to complain about movies they don't like.
It's one thing to discuss it and explain what you didn't like about it, or it could have been improved (which is perfectly fine), but it's another to just come on and just leave pointless comments with no merit.

Just because you're too stupid to understand it, doesn't mean it's a plot hole

reply

i saw it this afternoon too and can't stop thinking about it

reply

"I saw it this afternoon and I've already forgotten it. It's soulless."

That covers it.

reply

I'd say taking a 3 year old to a PG movie and all he did was fall asleep? You got lucky. My daughter is 6 and I wasn't sure about taking her but I'm glad I did, she was riveted the whole time.

reply

Definitely the most boring children's film of recent years, my 7-year-old niece was not impressed- and neither was I! Without Mub and Grub this film would have been pretty much unwatchable!

"Cos none of us were angels and you know I loved you, yeah."

reply

We had a group date night tonight and all 6 of us (we're all in our 30's) thought it was solid. Calling it horrible because a young child fell asleep is ridiculous.

reply

If the lame and unfunny sidekicks were the only thing going for this movie, then I think I just lost all hope.

reply

You lost all hope when you decided to base your movie choices on the feedback in these forums. IMDB is full of attention seeking trolls. Get your information from multiple sources and make an informed decision.

reply

Agree. Forgettable. I'm in my 30s, took my 6 1/2 year old son. He really liked it (which was obviously the point of going anyways), so I'm glad that he enjoyed it.

Personally I think the movie was weak. Visual effects were fine, but the story and characters were lacking. Bad casting on some of the voice over talent. I've seen my fair share of animated movies since having my son, but this one lacked many of the characteristics of much better animated fare--movies like "Finding Nemo", "Monsters Inc", and so on.

No reason to lambast the OP for having an opinion. She didn't care for it. Some will, some won't. Me personally? Clearly I'm not the target audience, but IMO as a lover of movies of all kinds--one showing is more than enough.

reply

Why do you bring a three (3) year old kid in a movie theater in the first place?!? What kind of parent are you (= bad)? In my country this animation was K-7 and for a reason.
