We need a real world GDI

In Our World we have Our own Brotherhood of NOD, Islamo Facism/Al Qaida. Therefore we need a real world GDI under US Leadership :)

That's true, I would imagine a coalition would incredibly hard to manage, with each country pulling in a different direction.

For such a program to work, the situation would have to incredibly dire, to allow first world countries to put their bickering aside and dissolve into one union.

For God's sake if you believe our government, the U.S (well all governments) is doing some good with wars and capitalism you have some issues.

Yeah, the american action movie teaching: We can all co-exist, if you exist as we want.
Human nature that applies to everyone but there are always the big countries like russia, america, and china that are the ones who say it out loud. And of course the as-aggresive but small ones like N-Korea and certain islamic factions.

That was the part that made me cringe. The hint is in the name: "Global Defense Initiative". Global. Ergo, leadership should be shared, probably in a house of representatives style environment (so members could veto decisions fairly.)

Besides, Islamic terrorists aren't exactly like NOD, NOD is a professional, unified terror organization, most Islamic terror cells hate each other almost as much as the west.

Not to mention how hard it would be to bind every nation on Earth together, imagine taking Israel and Palestine, England and Ireland, Russia and the Ukraine or India and Pakistan and saying "Now, you fellows are now best friends, kiss and make up..." It would never work. A Global Military power would be a wonderful dream, but for the time being that's all it will ever be.

Well, we have NATO, which is kind of like GDI... but NATO hasn't done much since the end of the Cold War.
