John played Train Dodge in his truck? That's like begging to get hit. And you could tell by the way it wouldn't crank right, that something bad was going to happen. It was a sucker's bet, alright. Did he know it would kill him, or was he just a dumbass?

He's just a dumbass. His idiocy was obvious when he lay underneath a moving train when he was a kid and sold his mother's most prized possession.
