Since I listen to the P&P 2005 soundtrack constantly, I recognized it immediately as well. Different version (not as nice, in my opinion) but a nice tip of the hat to P&P 2005!
I'm not sure I would call it a tip of the hat to P&P. Is it a tip of the hat to Emma (1996 tv version) when in Wives and Daughters, Mr. Preston and Cynthia dance to "Hole in the Wall"? :-)
The version in MP is the traditional ECD (English Country Dance) tune "Tythe Pig," whereas the music heard in P&P isn't (not exactly). The reason they sound different is because the score composer for P&P adapted (altered) the traditional dance music for the film. :-)
Also, traditional tunes usually have variations. The nature of the tradition is that each group, location, era, etc. changes something to make it their own. :-)
The tunes come from ECD, which makes them appropriate for the period dances in the films.
The new Pride and Prejudice does have the tune "Dutch Dollars" in its original form. On the soundtrack CD "Dutch Dollars" is on the track "Can't Slow Down." On the track titled "Meryton Assembly" is the dance tune "Tythe Pig."
In this version of Mansfield Park, when Fanny is dancing at her picnic, they are dancing to "Tythe Pig" not "Dutch Dollars."
Thanks for correcting this information. When I tried to confirm the tune a few months back, I found that all of the midi links on this webpage were broken. http://www.earthlydelights.com.au/english3.htm
I'm glad to find that this website has fixed all of their midi links.
Thank you so much for posting this message and sending me the PM. I'll be submitting a correction on the soundtrack listing, but it may be a few days (even weeks) before the correction shows up there.
Yeah, I noticed it. As soon as I heard it, I realized that I'd heard this song in one of the JA movies, but it took me a couple of seconds to reach P&P movie, lol.
