Lady Bertrams Laudenham addiction

I was wondering why in MP99 her opium habit was so obvious but never even mentioned in this adaptation?

She is portrayed as idle, lazy, inattentive and self-involved in the book; but there's nothing overt in the book that suggests it's due to drugs. Rather, I think Austen was lampooning both the rich idle women of the day who fob off their few demands or responsibilities to others so they can become lazy and self-indulgent; but also lampooning the society that forced those women to become nothing but lazy and self-indulgent by not allowing them to do anything.

Come, we must press against the tide of naughtiness. Mind your step.

Don't take MP99 too seriously. For the most part, all it shares with Austen's novel is the name of the story and the names of the characters. The characters that they kept, of course. William Price is nowhere to be found.
