Horribly misleading DVD packaging.

I was in Barnes and Noble the other day and saw this film filed in the horror section, which I'm assuming was a mistake simply because of the cover artwork; the US Region 1 DVD art makes the film look like some edgy B-grade thriller, when it in fact is a sensitive, slow-going drama film. I bought the DVD, anyhow, and I had a general idea of what it was about (and thoroughly questioned its filing under the horror section); I enjoyed it, and thought it was consistently engaging. Great acting, too, especially from Weaver and Bosworth; my opinion on Kate Bosworth's acting abilities was surely shifted after I watched her in this.

But, seriously, WHAT were the Weinstein Company execs. thinking when they came up with THIS for the cover art of a soft DRAMA film?! -- http://www.flixray.com/dvd_covers/200912/122985.jpg

I mean, maybe they wanted to mislead people into renting/buying it by making the cover all slick, but they could've done something just as nice which actually represents the themes/tone of the movie.

AGREED... I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE LIKE A MURDER MYSTERY TYPE MOVIE

Agreed. What an awful DVD cover.

You had better decide whether you're hangin' on the cross... or bangin' in the nails.

The cover is indeed awful and I rented it because I thought I'd be getting a thriller starring one of my favorite actresses (Weaver). Instead I got a beautiful and tender drama starring one of my favorite actresses. No harm done anyway.

Next time read the plot summary.

"I'll book you. I'll book you on something. I'll find something in the book to book you on."

All European editions (UK, French, German) have beautfiul covers surely not misleading.

The youtube trailer is also mis-leading. It makes you think the movie is a scary thriller. I guess they figured these things sold better than an intelligent, emotional drama??

reply

That's what you get for being a moron that can be conned by a *beep* dvd cover jacket. Instead of bitching, learn your lesson and be less gullible and maybe, just maybe, the corporate world will stop using your stupidity to sell movies.
