What happened at the end?

Young Dracula gets stabbed with a steak, and disintegrates, then at the every end old Dracula is disguised as a homeless person. Can someone tell me what happened?

We cannot know, but I would suspect that either the producers and BBC wanted to see where this might go with a sequel or, we see him again because evil never truly dies or something ridiculous like that...
