How does this compare to Bahman Ghobadi's other films?

I thought Turtles Can Fly was one of the most moving and extraordinary films I've every seen (as well as being one of the bleakist).

How does this film compare?

Hi, i agree with you about Turtles can fly. I really got touched with it, but Half Moon is different , it`s not so hard,it`s not all death and desesperation. It has an extraordinary black humour and will make u laugh and perhaps cry because of the characters situation.

Both of them are great cause it`s a bit difficult to choose only one but i`ll probably choose Turtles can Fly, althought it`s harder.

I've watched Turtles Can Fly and I am half way through Niwemang. I must say, Turtles Can Fly, while powerful and moving was very difficult to watch and it was so dark and gloomy that it seriously depressed me for days, if not weeks. Although you know the story of the movie is technically a fiction, you are still touched and deeply moved by it. Niwemang, however, is much more lighter, and as with any films with music as the centre of the film, it is a lot easier to watch and at times entertaining too. The choice of Hediye Tehrani, who is a popular actress in Iran, perhaps equivalent to America's Angelina Jolie, makes the film seem less "documentary-like" and more fictional and thus, easier to watch. I will watch the rest of the movie and might like it even more then.

I'm with most of the comments here--they're just different films, not really different in quality. Both are worth every second and worth repeated viewing.
