thoughts on the film

Finally i have seen Triangle. It has all the elements of a film noir ( dark lighting/unhappy couple/the femme fatale/double crossing/unsympathetic characters) and so forth) plus the style of all three directors. The first part is Tsui Hark's direction. There's nothing really interesting in this part it's just the setup of the story, but the fast/jump cuts and dialogues is obviously Tsui's style. The second part, directed by Ringo Lam, reveals the sophisticated emotions of the characters, the fun part is that Ringo Lam is pretty much playing with the character's minds and also the audience's minds and expectations. The final part is directed by Johnnie To. It has all the elements of a Johnnie To action sequence: all the characters with different intentions meet each other just like in PTU and they end up killing each other.

Overall it has been a great experience to see all the three directors putting their own style in three different parts of the movie. But if you ask me who owns the movie I would say Johnnie To because since this movie is produced by his company and his production team, it has Johnnie To's style all over it. Tsui and Ringo are there for the ride. It's just like in Sin City where Tarantino directs a scene from the movie but overall the movie has Rodriguez's style all over it.

Yes this movie is definately Ringo Lam's comeback, I like the fact that he is also paying homage to tarantino's resevoir dogs, especially the scene at the warehouse and the characters realized each other's betrayal

huh? taratino pays homage to ringo lam! resevior dog is a rip off of city on fire!

it's still a homage nevertheless

haha no props to Tsui Hark?
but really he hasn't done anything great other than creating the concept of this whole movie...
somehow this movie had a tarantino feel to it...the inconsistancies and the black humor

Among the three... Johnnie To last 30 minutes is the best.

Ok, This is my first board and when I read the threads over here I can fully understand that Hark is not the most liked director. Nevertheless, I would never dare comment on who has his style on a movie when I lack of information. Therefore dear FAIFAI0714, in case you didn't notice, Each segment was directed by a different director, with their own production team and screenwriters. The initial idea was tsuis, asking Lam and To what they think about doing a movie as a different expereience in which no one really knows what's it gonna be about. Both agreed and terms and bases had been settled. 30 minutes each. Own production, you notice their different styles but overall they agreed to guard a certain continuity in it's narrative and visual aspect as well as editing and the superb cinematography.

This is all I have to say and even though I am a Hark movie lover, the first segment sets the whole story up and I thought the idea of the chest just fantastic and the way they walk away with it. Ringo lams, is just superb adn To, well what can I say about To? I loved him before but now he just bores me. All his movies are the same, like someone posted, in the end they all just end up killing each other. Way to unoriginal. Even though I loved all game at the rural restaurant with the bags and the lights. Just magnificent chaotic play by all three of them.

In my opinion they all own the movie. because without any of them, the idea wouldn't stand.

Regards
