Very good film...

I rented this movie just two days ago from blockbuster and I found it to be a very entertaining film. The best part about this movie is that three of Hong Kong's finest worked together to create this collaboration of a masterpiece: Tsui Hark, Ringo Lam and the great Johnnie To. Fei, Sam and Mok (pronounced Mac in the dubbed version) are three ordinary drinking buddies who are in serious need of cash. When a mysterious stranger gives them a piece of gold and instructions on how and where to find a mysterious antique in some government building, they can't pass up on the offer and decide to check it out. They find some sort of gold robe that could be worth a fortune and they work together to try and sell it to the highest bidder. Problems arise for the trio in three ways:

-Fei, a down on his luck cab driver has requested Sam's rally driving services to aid in a getaway heist. When Sam gets cold feet and backs out at the last minute, it puts Fei and his elderly Mom in the crosshairs for trouble with the Triads.

-Fei is also in league with a crooked-ass cop named Wen and he proves to be a serious problem for the group when he learns about the golden robe.

-Sam has the most severe problems of everyone when his emotionally unstable wife Ling is having an affair with Wen and this really pushes him over the edge.

For the next couple of days, the trio will have their arms full trying to keep the robe out of the wrong hands while dealing with their day to day problems that will lead to a climatic finale in which their loyalties will truly be tested.

I thought the plot, the scenery and the action sequences along with the drama were an equal combination. The best part, all thre directors take their turn creating the film with their own teams for each segment of the film (Tsui goes first, Ringo second and Johnny-man takes up the rear with his climatic ending)

While most of the film will make you ponder and wonder what's going on and why the characters hesitate in most of their decisions throughout the film. The best part is that the characters learn a valuable lesson about life, love and sacrifice. And most of all, what is truly noble in the human spirit.
