Ok, I'm on episode 5 and...

I'm obviously confused (as one would expect). Is this not told in chronological order? or are there just multiple unrelated stories using the same characters that tie into the same legend at the end? I want to know but don't want it to be spoiled so if someone can please just answer without telling anything about the story it would be appreciated... Also I have to say so far I'm surprised. I heard it was horror so I bought it, watched half of episode one and don't like the chiildish animation so It sat on a shelf for months, I was bored so figured I'd just sit through it to form a fair opinion and I like how dark it gets.

Any others similar to this (as in seem light but are actually very dark)? the only other one like this is that war anime with the star thing, I forget the name but I may go look for it now.

Spoilers...

Ok, new question... Just finished the second chapter, and am confused. so was the supposedly burned woman alive all along and she was the one doing it? I'm confused because they found Mion in teh well, and the burned body was a fake so she was the only character not accounted for. but then how did the demon know all about Mion's feelings at the end? The way I got it is that in the end they found shion, and mion dead, and the blonde was a fake, the blonde also know the rituals were still being held so theres no doubt in my mind she's responsible but then how come she looked, sounded, and had the memory of Mion? unless there was a third sister hidden somewhere in there? Also just for the record... ow. Death sounds bad enough but torture, I felt nauseas. Also I don't see why the part that confused me was even necessary, that ending was good enough without it.

Lastly, sorry if this has been posted elsewhere, I just don't want to look around for fear of peaking at the ending.

MAJOR SPOILERS

finished the series, liked how everything added up in the end but two little things annoyed me.

1. When did the story stop being horror an dturn into a sci-fi action anime? Ot went from legendary curses and insanity, to aliens and diffusing a bomb way to quickly.

2. Not much of an ending at all. I mean the past questions were all answered but the problem didn't have a solution. Apparently the world is going to be fine again because the girl came to her senses, despite the incurable alien parasites...

Other than that the ending problems, wow, that was amazing. I especially loved Shion's version of one of the earlier chapters. It was so dark and so many things just weren't expected, Though some of the murders were a little much for me. I'm an 18 year old male and seing a little girl apparently stabbed repeatedly to death dragged out for about 5 minutes made me a little sick.

First off, they made it quite clear that the whole alien thing was a load of bullcrap.

Second off, there is a second season that continues the story, Higurashi no naku Koro ni Kai. It will answer pretty much every unanswered question from the first season.

reply

Not in the first series they didn't. I haven't seen the second. But in the first one the maggots in the neck would suggest the aliens were real. If what you're referring to is in the second one I'll know as soon as I get it.

reply

If the maggots were real... then why did NO ONE but Rena react to them at all? The other big clue they weren't real is the existence of the other notebooks, which are full of just as unrealistic facts.

reply

Didn't they say her symptoms got worse because she left the village, something to do with the climate? and if it wasn't important then why were the families so desperately trying to find it? Like I said I haven't seen season 2 yet but as of one thats the only logical explanation given as of yet.

reply

This is all stuff I was saying before season 2 started airing.

I think the notebook was saying that the notebooks could only exist in the unique climate of Hinamizawa.

Anyway, the point is, even if there is any truth in those notebooks - there are also so many lies within them that you might as well ignore them, at least until you can figure out what is the truth and what are lies.

watch the second series. it make things very clear.
