Gerard Butler's 'Beowulf and Grendel'

Have any of you seen the Sturla Gimmarsson(sp?) film of "Beowulf and Grendel" starring Gerard Butler? Although it took on a modern cadence of speech sometimes, and it had anachronisms...it was more like the original story before the myth grew. I used to teach "Beowulf", but I don't necessarily mind if the new versions don't stick to canon..However, I turned on this "Grendel"...and I was so disappointed thata I only watched half an hour of it. Now, the Bruno fellow was a baldish/shaved head individual who wouold not inspire me...Gerard Butler, on the other hand, was the very epitome of a hero in the 2005 version. The scenery (although not as depicted in the Anglo-Saxon poem) was Icelandic beautiful. The palette of the cinematographer was excellent, too. The producers(along with G. Butler) produced a documentary that is called "Wrath of Gods" about the trials and proverbial tribulations in making the movie. One could go to warathofgods.com and order a copy of the dvd which won the Audience Award at the Oxford Film Festival last month. I bought the dvd of the movie , too, from the Canadian Amazon.com. So if you've seen this miserable "sci-fi" nonsense that was just on, catch a glimpse of the Gerard Butler one...it's immensely better. I don't look forward to the animated feature coming out soon, either. If it's animated, it's for children...and the blood-lust and carnage that is Beowulf will be expunged, no doubt.

I haven't seen Grendel but I thought the Gerry Butler version was pretty good...though anything he's in I love so I'm not very objective! I thought their grendel was quite sympathetic which is good in a baddie, cause you don't care if everything is black and white!

Gordon Ramsay is GOD!

Shows how much you know. The animated version had a billion times more gore than any Beowulf movie to date
