Smoking in the film....

How did they get away with having the French kid and the bully smoking cigarettes? They were just kids! Did they use candy cigarettes or something?

reply

I dont know but he was the best part of the film.

reply

No, he just smocked a cigarette!

reply

Yep, as tardesdete said, they simply smoked cigarettes. Lee Carter only smokes in one scene for about a second so it wasn't that big a deal, and the French kid was a lot older, plus a lot of people smoke at his age in France.

reply

"How did they handle the issue of you briefly smoking in the film, Will?
WILL: It was a fake, herbal cigarette. Garth was very nice about it. He didn't make me do it too much. But every time I had to do it, I was dreading it. And it was horrible. And the good thing is, it's put me off smoking for life. But my father is a professor of medicine - of cardiovascular diseases and heart attacks and strokes - so I had a lot to put me off anyway. But that pretty much clarified it."

Hope this answers your question.

reply

I'm not surprised, those herbal cigarettes are absolutely foul. Different from 'herbal' cigarettes of course.

the kids weren't that young.... they just look like it. The kid who played Didier is 18 and the kid who played Lee Carter is like 16 i believe

There is no legal age for smoking in France. Plus Didier is meant to be older, around 16 I think.
