wow can we stop the hate?

there's so much bitching about this movie on these boards. all i keep reading is, 1. where's ace and carmen and i even have read complaints that dizzy wasn't in it, i really don't get that one.
2. the marauders are only in it for like 5 minutes
3. the acting isn't that good

well first of all the movie was only made for 9 million as the first one was made for 100 million so they probably couldn't afford to have the marauders be in it for very long, and couldn't afford to get all the old actors back. and as far as the acting goes...the acting wasn't even that good in the first one. but it was loveable anyways. this is in no means as good as the first one but if your a true fan it should be enjoyable at least. nothing could be worse than the second one. its a turn your brain off and enjoy the ride kinda movie just enjoy it for what it is. did you really expect going into it that it was gonna be anywhere near as good as the first one? if you did then your an idiot. the movie was made so the die hard fans had a sequel that was at least tolerable, and i hope that a 4th one comes out too...permitting that mr. rico returns or course.

I fully agree with you. It's 100 times better than the second one, and for how much they were able to use for this movie money wise, I'd say it was pretty darn good. IMPO This is the REAL Starship Troopers 2 movie, and I do hope they come out with a 4th one. :) Hopefully they're able to get some good money so they can bring back those marauders. That'd be cool. And as you said and others have said the other characters from the first one are either on other planets or are dead. This is a war movie, it ain't supposed to say anything about characters that weren't in it. Why would Rico be worried? He's in war. lol

I think it's a pretty good movie. It could have used a bigger budget and a simplified storyline though. It felt like the writers were restricted in their storytelling because of the budget.

I totally agree Starship Troopers 3 was actually good and have it on my DVD collection along side the first movie, but i must admit i did feel kinda sad that some characters from the first movie did not return like Carmen, Zim , Ace, Carl or the commanding officer Dean morris.

I mean seriously all these actors are making really bad movies made for TV or very low budget movies direct to video, that are far worse than starship troopers 3, it would be very stupid of them to decline a movie that is very well known in many parts of the world.

I think Casper Van Dien was the only one approached to start in the 3rd movie which also he was quite absent half the movie.

I do want to see a 4th movie but only if they bring a couple characters back from the first movie and 3rd even if it's only a glorified cameo that would put a smile on my face and i'm sure many fans too.

I think the same, not a bad movie, just a movie to watch for fun :)

As long as the Bugs threaten to destroy us, we can never stop the hate. Sorry.

hmmm....not quite sure what you mean by that but ok

It was a comment on one of the basic themes of the movie (and the first movie) -- hate for the enemy unites the humans and allows for the neo-fascist state portrayed. Granted, it didn't have much to do with your original post, but I felt that it was appropriate all the same.

I agree -- everyone should try to enjoy it as it is and not whine about who isn't in it. Tell you the truth Casper was the only one worth seeing again (Busey would have been fun though). As entertaining as any with a limited budget and I like the whole Trooper environment. Like to see a fourth one too with Rico naturally.

I agree. I kinda liked it. I couldn't even get through the second one, which I suppose lowered my expectations for the third installment...so I was content that it didn't totally suck. And I also agree with you that the budget was the biggest limitation here. All 9 million bucks are on the screen though. You have to give them that.

I do agree with some of the OP's points, but one does have to ask: if you can't make the movie you want to with the budget you have, maybe you just shouldn't make it? "If you can't do it right, don't do it at all".

AFAIR, one of the main reasons they didn't use power armor in the first movie was that it would cost too much... so rather than make it look silly or try and do it cheaply, they dropped the idea. ST3 is called "Marauder" and the suits are in it for all of five minutes... so why bother?

I wouldn't mind the absence of Carl and Carmen if the movie didn't have obvious "stand-ins" for them, much like ST2 had a stand-in for Zim. Knowing what was intended/could have been just makes the experience more depressing, IMO. Getting Casper back was great, but when it was clear they couldn't get Denise or Neil, they should have written a story entirely about Rico and left out the need for replacements for Carmen and Carl. Again IMO, of course.

Still, in the end, big or small budget is no excuse for a poor film. Turning one's brain off should never be a prerequisite for a movie (that school of thought leads to movies like the truly awful live-action Transformers movies)... heck, the reason I (and I suspect a lot of other fans) LOVE the original ST movie is because of the smart and funny satire and because it's NOT just another dumb action movie.
