Were we supposed to like Dix Hauser?

He gives Rico an attitude problem when all he was doing was helping him after Dix was antagonizing the farmers, gets his ass beat by a farmer then throws a tantrum when Rico stops him from killing the farmer as he's a pussy and retaliates by having him arrested over that and lastly he sits back and leaves Rico to be hanged all because he wouldn't go in the naughty corner as punishment for preventing a murder instead of helping his troops that needed him. I'm guessing Dix had something to do with Rico getting a death penalty as he is the only high ranking officer present in Roku San that resented him for a petty reason and whined to the federation about it after all, he had the power to save him from the hanging(while acting smug) only for the intention to have Rico risk his life to save his fiancee so maybe he had the power to authorize his hanging. Movie would've been better if this sack of crap had died in the hands of the brain bug. Can't believe Rico was still friends with him after all that.

He kind of grows on you after Rico's death is faked. He mentions the secret service. I wonder if the whole first half he wa being an jerk was an act, and he wanted Rico with him for the Maurader program even before Lola. But maybe I missed it. I was making popcorn when this scene was up, so maybe I missed something.

That's the only way I can tolerate Dix at all, is to believe he was planning the whole time to take Rico off grid through the fake execution and put him in charge of Marauder. Problem is, the movie doesn't make it out like that... it makes it out as if he's being a petty child and taking out Rico because of his history with Lola. Basically... the writing is too weak to know for sure what the intent was, but I still prefer to believe it was a preplanned mission, as it's the only way I can forgive and overlook Dix's actions through the first half of the movie..

Someone ever tries to kill you... you try to kill em right back.

He needs Johnny alive to rescue Lola and to lead the Marauder unit. It was a change of heart largely because he mistrusted Adm. Enolo Phidd (who, in turn, was hiding HER real motives for her behavior). If he didn't need Johnny, he'dve let him hang.

I don't think so. I didn't.
