Do you think this will ever be seen on the PS2

I think it will. Say in 2007 to help keep the PS2 franchise alive when the PS3 has taken over. Sony wants the PS2 to keep going till the end of 2007, hopefully 2008. But with the xbox 360 and PS3 taking control i dont see it making it that far. But i would definatly get this game if it ever is seen on PS2.

reply

if you have a ps3 you wont need a ps2 becuase it plays ps2 games ! so if they do make this game for ps2 ( they wont ) then i will buy it even tho i have a psp and am getting that version too

reply

no i think you miss the point. Yes of course you wont need a PS2 if you have a PS3, duh, thats a no brainer. But.........if they port the game to a PS2 you have not only PS3 owners able to play it but also PS2 owners who cant drop the dough for the next-gen console PS3.
And i remember reading somewhere that this game is being made the exact same way as Snake Eater. Meaning same detailic structure and motion capturing, except with less polys for the PSP to render.

reply

you never know ...it might but it would bring quality down a bit since it was made for psp , or they might just make an alt version exactly the same but just for the ps2 , hell they said they wouldnt with gta lcs but they did so who knows .

reply

no all they do is bring the poly count back up to PS2 capabilities. Like i said, MGO is made EXACTLY like Snake Eater. Then they lower the poly count for the PSP to render. So when they decide (and thats an IF) to port it to the PS2 they turn the poly count back up.

reply

well we will see what happens , if they make it for the ps2 i wounder if psp and ps2 online players could play together.

reply

Great. Now I don't know whether I should fork out money for both a PSP and Portable Ops, or just wait because there's a slim chance it'll be imported to the PS2.

*sigh*

reply

i hope they dont make a port, it brings the psp down a little more.... its stupid to amke an exclusive game for a systme, then 3 months later make a port to a bigger system (ie. gta:lcs) dont do it hideo!

reply

Negative. The psp version is not programmed the same as a ps2 game so it wouldn't be very easy to port to the ps2.

All the games are made on a pc yet they aren't planning on releasing a pc port of snake eater because it requires a lot more than just changing a few things.

Its not easy. It won't happen. Just buy the psp version and have some fun. :)

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops Associate Producer Ryan Payton:

Even if MPO sales don't exactly thrill the team, Ryan says there are and will be no plans for a PS2 port.

I wish it just came out on PS2 in the first place, I hate the portable nonsense. I like PSP, but right now the only places I go is to work AND then come home and play video games.

reply

MPO has utilized the PSP functionalities in a unique way (WiFi, searching for comrades etc). Porting it to the PS2 will lose the best of the game and it'd be a waste of time and money.

reply

its called portable ops for a reason :) whilst releasing it for the ps2 sounds attractive it wud be retarded considering the name of the title. kojima did say tht he intended to make a psp only version of his metal gear franchise. this is, and most likely will be the only one. metal gear acid was jus a filler so tht kojima cud release something special like this. hell i cnt even play the game for another 9 months since im in england, but countless reviews and videos cnt be wrong. i only hope tht the release date for europe is speeded up

reply

i'm a huge MGS fan, but i don't have a psp and prolly never will, so I too am wondering if I'll ever see portable ops on the ps2. kinda like when liberty city stories was on psp, but later onto ps2. i'm hoping this will happen w/mgspo

reply

I sincerely doubt it. I don't feel it would work too well on PS2.

reply

well the whole wireless thing could prove to be a hard issue to solve with the PS2, but given how this game holds the best MGS story of all, its hard to think Hideo wouldnt be true to the fans and just let it stay on the PSP.

Just so u know guys i live in Uk and ive played and completed MPO and its is absoloutly superb.
I imported it from the Us a few weeks ago, because the psp IS REGION FREE, ive completed it assembled a team and played online numerous time, stuff the nine month wait, just import it. Thats why psps are region free. Go on ebay find one and get it, overall mine cost £25 brand new with air mail postage.

This game IS NEVER EVER GOING TO BE PORTED TO PS2.

Not EVER.

Konami has already confirmed that.

Just like MGS 4 is PS3 only.

So either fork out and quit whining

or don't and shut up.

Any true fan of Metal Gear would buy a PSP for this game.
I did, which seperates you from me.
I have been a Metal Gear fan since the release of the NES version back in 1988.
I have bought every piece of hardware that had any Metal Gear game on it.

I got a Cube for Twin Snakes, PS1 for MGS, PS2 for MGS 2, MGS 3 (both versions of each game as well) Xbox for the MGS 2 port, GBA for MGS Ghost Babel, PSP for Metal Gear Acid 1,2 and MGS Portable Ops.
NES for Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge.

The only one I am truly missing is a MSX and the 2 MSX carts. Which I plan to get as well as a PS3 for MGS 4.

Now, buying a Cube for Twin Snakes I can understand, although I bought mine for Metroid Prime. But why the hell would anyone want to buy an XBOX for the MGS2 Port if you have played it on the PS2, in two different versions already??
Anyhow, I too bought my PS2 for MGS3, and my PSP for PO.

On-topic: Nah, they won't port it to the PS2.

When is Portable Ops coming out on PSP? Or has it already came out?
