Since when do microwaves operate with the door wide open?

I have yet to see one do that. Unless the doctor somehow knew how to circumvent the kill switch that is wired into the unit, something that every MW oven I've ever owned or used has had.

Or maybe... yes, advanced circuitry training in addition to years of medical school?... totally believable. :)

I get it, it's just a movie. But is it too much to ask that they get a few details right? Or am I the one who somehow missed some flittering vital detail which magically answers this question?

On some MW's it's as simple as tapping the door sensor closed. Same with dryers. Not all of course. But enough to make the scene reasonable.

Circumventing a door switch is "advanced circuitry training"? The field of electrical engineering must be setting the bar really low.

Anyway, how is it so unbelievable that someone has knowledge in something that is not in their career field? My father has an MBA in finance and is a credit manager for an advertisement company, yet he also does drywalling in his spare time.

The microwave was broken, i.e., did not work correctly. That flittering vital detail was noted when they first arrived at the house.

So yes, you are The One.

That's not what the Oracle said!

I was less concerned with how plausible the scene was than how silly it was. The rest of the violence in the film was brutal and harrowing, and then out of nowhere we suddenly get a ludicrous "Itchy and Scatchy" moment with an exploding head in a microwave. The hand in the garbage disposal was a bit silly as well, but I was willing to let that one slide. But the microwave scene took me right out of the film.

Just as well you were only brought out of it just as it ended!

reply

Just go with it. It's a movie.
