SERIOUS QUESTION ABOUT USER COMMENTS

Why is it that out of the 8 or 9 ppl that put user comments up, like 4 of them have all commented on other movies but most of them are the same movies. And they are movies I never heard of like The Life Before Her Eyes, Bigger Stronger Faster, Surfwise, Boarding Gate, and The Signal.

A little strange???

Check it out and get back, Thanks.

Companies pay people to post good comments online when they know that their movie is going to suck, in an effort to combat all of the real comments saying that the movie is trash.

If someone just gushes about a movie and doesn't list ANY bad things about it, they're probably being paid to write the review. Even great classic movies have some stuff to critique.

And since College looks like total garbage, the gushing reviews are probably mostly fake.

How can I get that job???

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here. This is the War Room."
"You jump, I jump, right?"

reply

I actually liked this movie. It all depends on your taste in movies I guess.

reply

Also notice that all the comments are like 7-8 lines long, which I think is the minumum for a user comment.

reply

I thought the same thing.

bushtony and his mother suffer from Congential Stupidty and they didn't see it coming.

hasahasahhhhaaaha

as soon as i saw those i could totally tell they were fake especially looking at some of the titles of them like "where can i enroll?" haha wow

My favorite ones are the ones that say "This is not like the other college movies because this one has..." and then go on to describe every other college movie.

Oh my god! Scantly clad girls? Beer? Masturbation? Frat parties? No one's ever thought to make movies about that... you'd think if the producers were that scared of it being a bomb, they'd've just given it a slightly more original name. But then no one would know what the movie was about.

And boy Drake Bell's really trying to bust outta his Nick Jr roots. Between this and Crappy Super Hero Movie (spelling?)... Drake - listen up - do a risky Indy film, possibly one where you get raped or commit a rape, make sure its a musical, and problem solved. Just release it after your teeny bopper Nick Jr fans are grown up enough to get into R rated movies, or they'll sneak in and you won't make any money.

I knew I recognized that kid from somewhere, but I couldn't place where. Now I remember watching that stupid show with my sisters. I almost want to see this movie solely to see if he actually has any talent as an actor in a real movie as opposed to that kiddy claptrap. Not that this movie is actually a good venue for brilliant acting, but it has to be better than the boring crap Nick is putting out these days, right?

....right, guys? Hello?

He's actually been shockingly decent in a couple of good movies, like Mean Creek, and The Wackness.

reply

I think theire talking about Drake Bell, Not Josh Peck, But if they arent, you are right josh was great in those.

I have no fear, there is no need. He is but a grown up pumpkin seed.

reply

Oh, wow. I have no idea how I got that mixed up. I guess I wanted this movie to have at least some redeeming value, so in my mind I put "the good one" of those two in this movie.

reply

Yes, I was referring to Drake Bell. And if he's been good in anything, it would surprise me. Nothing I've seen him in has been worth the time spent watching it, much less anything else.

Beer?

Not only that, but the OST has "The Beer Song" by Mustard Plug. That'd be the only reason I'd see this movie.

reply

because they're probably corporate shills or were involved in the production of were friends/family of cast or crew members. It's becoming sadly more and more common on this site.

Someone either paid to post comments or directly involved in the production of the film. Imdb has way too many of these for crap films in an attempt to overshadow the legitimate negative comments by filmgoers. In the age of payola for phony film critics (remember that scandal a while back?), this should come as no surprise.

Are they hoping that College will get some of Disaster Movie's undeserved ticket sales? Actually if they could make Disaster Movie fail so badly in theaters and on home video that the untalented hacks Seltzer/Friedberg never made another 'parody' movie again, I might thank the makers of "College" for doing something good, though I don't want its makers to simply supplant them to make another series of films as worthless as the people behind Date Movie/Epic Movie/Meet the Spartans/Disaster Movie have.

i also noticed about the reviews is that it says they're all from United States. It doesn't give a real location.

If you check the posting histories of the users with the positive comments:

hufharted, MsMaryS, choul, hareyT, PhilMcK623, Knott, Taj1978, MstrMovie23, RBigs, and IMCharger

you'll see they've all given glowingly positive reviews to the same set of films from Magnolia pictures: The Life Before Her Eyes, Bigger Stronger Faster, Surfwise, Boarding Gate, Flawless, The Signal, and Graduation. Curiously, three of those films (Bigger Stronger Faster, Boarding Gate, and Flawless) were released in flawless DVD quality on bittorrent sites prior to their theatrical releases in the USA.

It makes me wonder if the same marketing geniuses who make bogus posts on IMDB also do a grassroots bittorrent distribution to drive up chatter about their mediocre films.

reply

There are only two non-shady explanations:
1) Random chance has results in a group of users visiting the same similar movies. They also all happened to like the movies.
2) This is a group of people who know each other in real life that watch movies together and have similar opinions.

But most likely they are being paid to inflate the ratings.

Bigger Stronger Faster was a great film, The Signal is also a favorite of mine, a very original horror...
