Anyone else annoyed by ridiculously overpowered superheroes?

I admit it was cool when Richard and Kahlan slaughtered that entire regiment in the series premiere, but I was glad that for the most part in Season 1 they showed in many episodes that Richard et al could be beaten in a battle.

But in Season 2 it was just *beep* ridiculous - they would be outnumbered 100 to 1 in every fight and easily win without breaking a sweat. It made the show completely uninteresting. What's the point of watching if the heroes are invincible? I wish they would have occasionally lost a few fights in the second season.

But, was the failure to be renewed a result of Richard's increasing invincibility, or was it due to some other factor? The book series didn't appear to dwindle all that much from it. Even though the book series came to an end a while back, there is still enough of a market for it that another prequel hit bookstores a few days ago.

I happen to think that the big reason that the show didn't do so well is that its producers played the political correctness game with it a bit too much.

Renaming it from "Wizard's First Rule" to "The Legend of the Seeker" in order to draw less criticism from pseudo-sanctimonious audiences of the United States and elsewhere who might have opposed the concepts of sorcery, made it a whole lot less interesting than it could have been.

Worse, is the way the whole "rule number one" was introduced. Who disagrees with me that the introduction to the actual rule behind "Wizard's First Rule" in the book series was a whole lot more interesting?

My take is that when anybody sees the show before reading the books and then reads the books is going to be, a lot more interested in the books, than in the show.

Not that the series is all that bad, really, but, like the originator of this thread, I happen to agree that it really isn't anywhere near as interesting as it could have been, and nowhere near as interesting as I had expected it to be.

The book series isn't over though. It didn't end with "Confessor". Just because "Law of Nines" and "Omen Machine" weren't labeled as part of the "Sword of Truth" series of books, they are pretty much still the same series based on the fact that they are set in the same universe. With another book still on the way, the series isn't over yet.

i would have to disagree i would always rather watch a live action version of a book no matter how good a book is it is always more enjoyable to watch it then read it.

you clearly dont know history
if you look at historical battles you will find that many battles in history had armies very large in size be defeated by very small armies in which each member of the smaller armies had killed on equal 50 or more enemy soildiers

reply

Yes, those are armies. It is possible for a small army to defeat a much bigger army. It is not possible for 2 people to kill 200 in a sword fight.

One thing you're kind of missing is that all four of the leads actually were superheroes. All had magical powers/ weapons on top of badass-normal levels of skill. So even without the special tools the three young'uns, at least, could take on 2-3 normal mooks; add the tools and the odds are ever in their favour (I know, different franchise).

Yup, Doug, I thought the same. so dumb and unbelievable. and the women taking out 3-5 armored-up dragon core men at a time, ridiculous.

You guys are forgetting that Kahlan often confessed some of the soldiers to fight for her. Just because they are an army doesn't mean that they were a competent army.

reply

I have to agree that some of the fights were exagerated but from the books point of view Richard was fighting with the knowledge and power of all the past seekers when using the sword. Also Kahlan has extensive weapons training from her father and let's be honest Cara had just to show up in her red outfit...
