Excellent Second Effort

... and that's not to say the first effort was bad. in fact, i liked The Motel, michael kang's first feature film. but West 32nd really shows how Kang grew as a film maker between then and now. (i heard, after The Motel, he went on a directors' understudy program with ABC tv, working on shows like Lost? unconfirmed.) the visual style and visceral feel of West 32nd is so different from The Motel, and i'm pretty sure creating that involved much more than simply changing the scenery.

the visual style is so finished and sexy, and it really turned a familiar city block, 32nd street between 5th ave and broadway, into another world.

it's a fun and mesmerizing film. and you just have to love Grace Park.
