how much will it take to set traps?

I dont think the Collector had any help from anyone. I think most of the traps were set up before Arkin got to the house. I dont remember if the bear traps were down before he got there, but I think the only new trap that was set up was the spider web wire trap.

reply

didn't Arkin return to the house to rob the safe on the same day he had been working there? after the family left, that gave the Collector only a few hours to rig all of the traps.

is it possible for him to do all that alone? do we assume that he knew the house and had it all planned, and just had to actually install them?

reply

Agree, it is impossible to set up all those elaborated traps in a few hours, without any help.

Boycott movies that involve real animal violence! (and their directors too)

reply

But most importantly...

WHY oh WHY ON EARTH would he put traps for???
What for?
He already had most of the family subdued!

It's almost as if he knew a burglar would come, which is completely ridiculous!

Now, if that was his own house, that would have been a separate story... and perhaps Arkin would have gone to steal on the wrong house (he got the wrong address)...
But no. Just plain lazy and non-creative patronizing writing, which thinks the viewers are stupid and has the traps there just because... well... because they're cool!

reply

The traps are part of the game/thrill and also insurance in case someone actually does escape. The father was released remember? Im sure he didnt pick his cuffs or cut himself free. The traps make it fun for him, not to mention it might actually help him pick who he wants to collect. Maybe he wants someone that can outwit the traps, maybe he wants a challenge, someone he could brake. Im sure he didnt know someone was going to brake into the house. The collector was just doing what he always does, brakes in, captures whoever he can and than sets up traps and enjoys the show. It was just bad timing on Arkins part.

I respect your opinion, but I think you're just trying to justify the nonsense.
Just read reviews all around the internet; from average-joes to top-critics think nonsense abounds in this film.

A true fan of the genre will have some forgiveness for the love of the genre, stick to biographies or documentaries if you need everything to make sense in your head.

And exactly when did horror have to be 100% logical to be monumentally enjoyable?
ex.Cabin in the woods

+Anything supernatural or demonic

He must have known the daughter would be coming home and was likely going to bring a boy or friend back with her as she was under the impression the house was empty, so it makes sense he would have set the traps for them

reply

Pretty sure this movie isn't supposed to be taken 100% seriously. There's no way time wise nor any reason in the first place for him to set all the traps. McCauley Culkin however...

reply

Are you 100% sure about that? Really?

...it's just another dumb film, get over it.

reply

Yeah the basic plot is totally ridiculous. He had no way of knowing anyone was going to try to commit a heist and the traps were way too elaborate for any one person to set up in such a short time. It's a fun movie but completely unrealistic. Not worth further discussion.

reply

Not worth further discussion.

Actually, it is. It's worth seeing how the ridiculous and stupid can be justified by (presumably) rational, intelligent people. There are soooooo many plot holes in this, it's a joke to watch. And why stop at the plot, the characters are just as unbelievable. As for the motivation of The Collector... (ROTFL)

The traps set up - and the time it would take - ruined it for me.
