if this had Pixar's name attached to it...

if this had Pixar's name attached to it, the rating would be 9.8, no doubt.

isn't that sad? That people are incapable of forming their own opinions on a movie and instead base it solely on the prestige of a name?

Up was not very good...even Wall-e was a disappointed. I did like Toy-Story 3, but Cloudy was just better in almost every way.

reply

Absolutely agree 100%. CLOUDY is one of the best animated movies of the last 10 years along with MONSTER HOUSE. UP, WALL E and TOY STORY 3 (Yes!) don't even come close.

Meatballs Was HILARIOUS. But Toy Story 3, Up, & Wall-E are Animated Masterpieces. Pixar Is the American Equivalent to Studio Ghibli. Everything they put out is
gold.

reply

Exactly. If this had Pixar's name on it, it would have had a decent script and some more likable characters, because Pixar would never have put their name on CLOUDY WITH A CHANCE OF MEATBALLS in the form that I saw it.

"Pixar Is the American Equivalent to Studio Ghibli. Everything they put out is gold."

Except CARS II, which was actually pretty crap.

reply

I was going to agree with you at first, until I read what you said about Up and Wall-E. Then I thought, I'm going to agree with Young Justice instead. Excepting that I think Cars is an absolute piece of turd for Pixar's standards. Annnoooooyyyiiinnnggg. I think Wall-E is a perfect movie in every way, but if there is another movie I put in with pleasure a million times (toddler son) it is this one. The animation, the colour, doesn't have that Pixar mind-numbing realness to it, but it has its own unique, brilliant style.

reply

woww wooow op dont be hatin on WALL-E...and im sorry this movie was ok but anything of pixar..including the shorts pre dating toy story are better then any other cg animation. not so much in the look but the movie as a whole...this movie and others just have a sillyness factor that is just to much some times...

I agree, with everything you said here.

This film would not have made it out of pre-production if it had Pixar's name attached to it.

As far as I am concerned there are three perfect CGI films.

Wall-e, The Incredibles and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

With a majority of the other Pixar films being just slightly underneath them.

Anyone who says that this movie isn't worthy of Pixar... well... can I call them stupid without sounding like a douche? Because they have to be complete Pixar purist morons (Which I was as well before I discovered the magic that is Cloudy) or... I dunno.... have really lame taste? Probably one or the other.

I watched Toy Story 3 for a second time a few days ago, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs today. I really wanted to enjoy 'Cloudy', but it doesn't even hold a candle to the emotional reality Pixar creates in their movies. Pixar films touch their audience very deeply by making poignant statements and observations about humanity.

Was anyone not weeping at the end of TS3, thinking about leaving their childhood behind? That film, like other Pixar classics, ingeniously stirs some of our deepest emotions- in this case, some that I wasn't even aware I had. THAT is a work of art. 'Cloudy' felt like an extended, cobbled-together saturday morning cartoon. Whenever there was a moment that could have meant something greater, the writers instead opted for the low road: fatuous and often half-baked gags. Some of the jokes were pretty clever, but ultimately I think the film sacrificed any sense of cohesion and clarity in its characters, plot, and message. Pixar rarely (never?) loses sight of the big picture, which is what separates the men from the boys in the world of animation.

reply

Cloudy had some great emotion in the scene where the father puts on the thought translator, but really, it doesn't need to be emotional. It is just the perfect comedy. Everything is hilarious.

I feel it's more Arrested Development/Community/Scott Pilgrim vs. the World kind of absurdist self aware meta humor. Not really Saturday morning cartoonish.

Yes all the Pixar movies have heart and, as you said, a bigger picture, but I think the comedy of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs rivals anything Pixar has done.

It is the kind of film that knows exactly what it is.

Holy cow, Mtaco. You just slashed together the three most awesome things. That amount of awesomeness should not be so close in proximity! They are creating a new sun! The liiiiiiggggghhhhhhtttttt!!!!!!!

reply

Was with you until you lumped Arrested Development in with Scott Pilgrim. That's like comparing apples to some fruit nobody's ever heard of ;)

But yeah, 'Cloudy...' in my opinion was funnier with any Pixar movie I've ever seen. Note the word I use is funnier.

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

reply

Not liking Scott Pilgrim is tantamount to not liking Arrested Development in my book. And as we all know, not liking Arrested Development is tantamount to being filthy scum.

"Cloudy..." is one obnoxious, if occasionally entertaining, movie. It's all over the place. Instead of focusing on one coherent story with jokes stemming from the plot, "Cloudy.." moves rapidly from one gag to another, topped off with ridiculous over-delivery from the voice actors (same problem with "Despicable Me"--every line spoken by the actors is so corny and over-zealous that you can almost hear the rim shots). It's a movie made for spastic kids with ADHD. Pixar knows how to make a movie with memorable stories and characters that appeal to everyone. Plus, they never try to cash in on big-name actors to draw attention from movie-goers. I don't remember who voiced Wall-E or Eve but I sure do remember the characters. If Pixar got ahold of "Cloudy..." the outcome would be very different.

Count each day as a gift; you never know when the wrapping paper's going to run out.

reply

Not really. This movie was just ok and a 6/10 to 7/10 is what it deserves; no more. Just my opinion, but I thought it was only decent and not as engaging with as many likeable characters and memorable moments as most Pixar movies. Wall-E, Up and the Toy Story series are near flawless films.

Also, Cars and Bug's Life are Pixar and both have less than 7.5 on here, where as How to Train your Dragon & Kung Fu Panda have higher ratings than both.

reply

This movie was much better than loads of Pixar stuff in my opinion. But it's way of Pixar's best.

You didn't like Wall-E or Up? Goddamn you're stupid.

reply

[deleted]

Nah, it's fine to have opinions. But not liking Wall-E or UP is like not liking oxygen. It's like not believing in evolution. It's like hating life, you should then kill yourself.

reply

[deleted]

Exactly, if you don't like either, then you're not human, and shouldn't be alive.

reply

walle and up were ok

they're like candy, full of sugar so you know the kids will love it.

imo it's people like quionic that shouldn't be alive

reply

Why don't you do the world a favor and kill yourself.
If you don't think UP and Wall-E were perfect, then you should not be alive.

Interesting premise from the OP. Why can't this movie AND Pixar movies be O.K? Reminds me of Apple people hating on Windows, which means no matter what Microsoft does it will be ripped on but if Apple comes out with the same thing, oh Allelujah, sound the bugles! And I'm no MS apologist either.
