How did they just quit...

...being Nazi's? I would think that in 1936 in Germany that wasn't really an option...

Danke!

The question of them quitting being nazi's is not relevant. Not all Germans were members of the Nazi party. But the country was not at war yet and they quit the service.

The Wehrmacht and the NDSDAP were two distinct organisations.
In fact up until 1943 members of the Wehrmacht were prohibited to join any political party ( not that it mattered much after 1933 ).

I think the OP was wondering how the 2 enlisted men were able to simply quit being in the Mountain Division, which was part of the Wehrmacht. I wondered that as well.

The real question is when people will quit asking the most stupid questions the world has ever seen about Nazi Germany, showing total ignorance about the subject.

Pre-war Germany was a normal place.
People lived, consumed, and so on, as normal. In fact it was one of the most prosperous times in Germany and most Germans were surprised and disappointed in Hitler seemingly getting Germany into war in 1939.

About the two quitting the army. Why didn't they just tell the commanders that they wanted a leave so that they could climb the Eiger? I'm sure they would have been encouraged to do so, and may even be funded by the German government.

Except for those pesky Nuremberg Laws and events like Kristallnacht.

How anyone can say pre-war Germany was normal is beyond me.

Only 18 percent or so people where members of nazi party. If you think in Nazi germany all are nazis is as stupid as to think everyone in America is stupid liberal supporting Sanders only.
