Did genetics skip a generation?

I watched this last night on the Hallmark channel and was expecting the usual 'made for TV' drivel (sometimes you need harmless escapism).

I was however, pleasantly surprised. I guessed Michael was probably Carrie very early on but I wasnt sure as Michael looked nothing like the Waiverleys.

Do you think thats what the casting director did to throw off anyone thinking she was Carrie? Catherine Bell is very exotic looking with dark hair and hazel eyes......The actors playing the parents were fair and blue-eyed. True they had grey hair but their skin colour suggests they were fair. Michael has olive skin........Thats the only thing that put me off.....she looked NOTHING like her real parents.....

On a side note, I respected the high caliber of acting...........I enjoyed this movie.

Thats a very good point... i also noticed this. I never thought that Michael was actually carrie until right at the end. Amazing acting by Catherine Bell and the rest of the cast.

Catherine bell was good and this movie was good to

DarkAlessa now the end of day and Iam the Reaper:silent hill

Maybe she's the milkman's daughter? Point of fact: Catherine Bell looks exotic because Catherine Bell *is* exotic. Her mother's Iranian, if I remember correctly, as Catherine's fluent in Farsi.

This movie is one of the few times when I didn't care that family memebers looked nothing alike, because the acting was so awesome.

Yes thats right Catherine's mother is Iranian.

what irked me about this movie was not the resemblence or non but that her name was michael. they had an explanation in the movie but still. who'd ever name a girl michael on purpose? what that does to a child isn't positive. every time they said it, i cringed.

reply

Hmmm she wasnt named Michael... it explains that at the end of the film...

When Carrie was brought out of the fire she was so traumatised that when they asked her for her name she said 'Michael' who was the prince of stars that the girls were wishing to...thats where the name comes from

yes..got that part but her adoptive parents named her michael because she spitted that out. what if she said "fire", "crap", or "david"....that's just odd and it just didn't add to the movie but took away. IMO

reply

I can only think that because the child was so traumatised they didint try and tell her what her real name was... just left it as Michael.

I could always ask the producer Jolene Rice!!

guess you can, i guess. we could go round and round about this one. so, instead of traumatizing her once more, it's going to continue thru her life. this really was a good movie and i've watched it b4 a long time ago. great story too.

It was a fantastic movie, they were actually hoping to make a second film but the script didint get picked up. Wonder what it would have been about??

Catherine Bell's chemistry and Mark Humphrey was awesome in this film!

With all due respect, evikeaz...Michael Learned is, in fact, a woman! There are a zillion reasons why people name their children what they name them. It's only a name...

reply

name one that would clearly resemble a man...in real life and print and why. my daughter's name is amanda..no question..pretty name..i did not want any reason someone would ever make fun of her name other than the usual.. a man...duh...same story..kids can find anything irritating. u nvr know what sticks in a little kid's mind. BUT MICHAEL??? ahhh nooo....and it's not ONLY a name...it's something you carry with you for the rest of your life...it defines you.

I have to admit early on I suspected Michael was Carrie. There had to be a reason she was named Michael. HOWEVER, Michael was clearly of Middle Eastern descent, and her parents were fair skin with blue eyes. It would have been a better movie if they had cast someone with non-ethnic features. So the casting director deserves an F.
