Two uncomfortable moments... *SPOILERS*

First of all....LOVED the movie. For me it had a "The Office"/Christopher Guest style with a dash of Quentin Tarantino nostalgia.

There were two scenes though that made me feel uncomfortable.

*SPOILERS BEGIN*

The first is when the one-eyed guy rants about his experiences in the Viet Nam war. At first it was funny, but it ended on going so long that I really started to wince and think "this isn't funny....that stuff really happened to people." Now normally if I heard someone say something like that, I'd respond with "oh lighten up whimp" or something like that. But here, I find myself on the other side of the coin.

The other scene is when Breeze Loo gets his ass kicked by Cole Kim. Again, I get the humor (nice, calm guy kicks ass of cocky actor -- actor stays cocky even after getting ass kicked), but maybe the makeup was TOO good or too MUCH because I really felt sorry for him afterwards. Especially when he gets carted out of Martey Kurtainbaum's office. Again, I'd have the same response as above but still, the coin falls the same for me.

Using my "Office" comparison from above, or actually....I'll go a step further. Ricky Gervais got really really serious in his "Extras: The Extra Special Series Finale" after many uncomfortable moments from prior in the series. A LOT of people were very disappointed as a result.

I'm definitely not disappointed in this movie at all, but was wondering if anyone got the same type of vibe from these two scenes?

I really do enjoy this movie and this is not meant as a knock on it -- in fact I plan on watching it again. Maybe upon second viewing I'll "relax" and get more of the humor out of those two scenes. :)

i agree. but i think that's the point, especially with the vet guy. There's been a lot of Asian in American military but they never get any air time.

I agree with you on both points, atrac.

(That 'beat up' make-up really was extremely good--disturbingly so, as you say.)
