SPOILERific Question (Because I Am An Idiot)

Yes, I really am an idiot. I was so annoyed by the translation that I wound up fast forwarding through the DVD, just to find out who the lady in red was. I no longer cared about the killer because I figured whoever the killer was, they would end up having nothing to do with the lady we keep seeing...and about that I was right.

But now I HAVE to ask...was the doctor (who apparently murdered his own son--the brat) the main serial killer or was he part of some curse that was passed on and on? And how were the victims ultimately connected if the doctor was the main killer...why was he killing all these people and how did his kid factor in? (Personally, I don't blame him for killing his son...the kid was a waste of space.)

I know I am probably lazy for not re-watching the movie, but the whole thing is now bugging me.
