uh wow. (spoilers)

I enjoy Japanese horror flicks a lot, watched this last night and...
i feel like I could have seen the first 5 minutes, fallen asleep until the last 5 minutes and still would have been just as lost vs watching the entire movie. I'm not completely dense, symbolism- ok we'll go there but still.. come on! I can't be the only person!

his girlfriend was dead the whole movie? uh why, how?
red dress chick - the main character had nothing to do with her death, he saw her and she is a vengeful/bitter spirit who was forgotten, died and now wants everyone dead so she possess others to kill via saltwater.. right? BUT is not the same red dress F18 girl.. so putting them in the same clothes was to trick the audience I guess?
the end of the movie - w t f?

after it was over i laid in bed trying to be open minded, but here I am ranting.

this movie just wasn't for me I guess. kudos to those who enjoyed/may possibly understand or perhaps I'm just putting too much stock into understanding the movie.

The movie was a mess. I assume the empty streets at the end are because red dress gal made everyone else but our hero, the only one she forgave, dead like her. Don't know why the dead girlfriend was screaming; I guess that tied back to something the therapist -- who by the way was really a terrible therapist, and apparently never heard of doctor-patient confidentiality -- said earlier, bu tI wasn't really paying attention.

I think the subtitles were probably badly done too; a lot of the dialog seemed odd and awkward, probably mistranslated.

Yeah. Loved Kairo/Pulse, and some similar things like Suicide Club... but this was terrible.

I get the allegory. It's neat and meaningful. But this has to be the most nonchalant movie I've ever seen. There's a difference between "slow paced atmospheric film" and "film that doesn't even seem to give a damn about itself". Terrible things happen, people shrug. Including the director. Maybe that was the point and the complete lack of care and effort conveyed by the film is representative of the lack of care in society and human nature. In that case, congratulations Retribution, you've accomplished an astounding meta-feat that makes you a godawful movie.

Symbolism is great. Having a message is great. Conveying it poorly is not. He's conveyed messages really well before; again, see "Pulse". This time it feels like "Kurosawa on autopilot". I'd honestly forgotten he directed this by the time I got around to watching it, and at the film's end I was left thinking "that was a really crappy, talentless, effortless Kurosawa ripoff". Then I came here and realized it was actually Kurosawa. That was more depressing than any of his movies.

Completely agree. Just wasted. The main guy who I loved in The Cure was given nothing to do. Story was very weak
