Watched last night on the Hitler, er History Channel

I watched the movie last night on the History Channel, and even had the wife Tivo it for later watching without all the ridiculous commercials.

I liked the way that they wove the movie in with actual footage, some with the audio as well. Over all Göring was a very interesting character. Never realized that he wore polish on his nails though.. Guess I’ll have to look that one up…

Anyhow, one of the earlier posters remarked that Speer broke ranks with the other defendants. He also survived to write his memoirs and make a lot of money after being relieased from Spandau prison. Speer was obviously trying to save his “neck” during the trials since he wasn’t in nearly as deeply as some of the others, just thought he might have had a chance, which turned out to be true.

I read “The Mystery of Hermann Goering's Suicide” by Ben Swearingen a number of years ago, and this movie follows some the conclusions in that book very closely. I’ll have to look at the credits to see.

Not perfect, but well done I think. I would recommend it to any WWII buff.

Joe

You seem to have liked it, so why the snide Subject line?

I thought it was very well done. I had a vague knowledge of the Nuremburg trials but this show really made it clear and while it focuses on Goering, it does also touch quite a bit on the other trial defendants. I had no idea he was so odd before his arrest. I would have liked to have known a little more about that part of his life. But then again, this show was meant to focus on the trials so I understand. It also cleared up how he got hold of the cyanide capsule. I recall hearing that he had it on her person ever since he was arrested but after watching this show, I am sure that Tex slipped it to him. Pretty outrageous that Tex was never investigated or prosecuted. But all in all a very good show anyone interested in World War II, Law, History of any kind, and National Socialism (Nazi). I'd give it an A.
