It is not a bad film, on the surface it is a story about the simple story of the "Stone", but i felt that the way the movie was shot, the director/writer wanted to say something utterly missing in Chinese cinema, perhaps a deep satire that only a careful observer can perceive.
Is it by Chance that they choose the City of Chongqing? is it by chance that the entire movie is in the Chongqing dialect? and not in the "Official" mandarin? is it also by Chance that so many scenes in the movie seemed visually so disgustingly hideous? why not make big, beautiful pictures, that Zhang Yimou makes? what is the director trying to do here?
Before you think about this movie more, please don't make such idiotic, immature statements like "this movie is bad".
I always felt that there is something really deep going on in there, that only somone who understands the present predicament of China would realize.
For the sake of Chinese Cinema, for the sake of China, more films like this should be made!
