i dont want say so much technic word in English, but this film for someone which study about film or work in film business, is really not a good film. story's style is copy from snatch. and photography are bad, it waste a HD project! god damn it! I dont know why so many ppl are crazy about this worthless film.

shareI thought the film was fantastic! I watched it with a good friend of mine who is actually from Chongqing (the city in which the movie takes place). She explained everything from language/dialect differences among all the different characters (which is good for me because I only understand standard Chinese) to the lottery scams pulled by the 3 bungling thieves to facts about the city itself. I can completely understand why so many people are crazy about Crazy Stone. Unlike other recent, and awful, Chinese films like Hero, House of Flying Daggers, The Promise, and The Banquet, this film is actually concerned with Chinese issues and Chinese sensibilities rather than Western praise and Oscars. Rock on Hao Ning!
P.S. I've seen lots of films ;) Is that giving you enough breath?
This might not be the best Chinese film ever,but look at it's budget!
It did not even cost $1Million US.
Andy Lau invested in it btw, that draw a lot of attentions for sure.
Wut about Wuji? spent 40 times more than crazy stone, and all for 120mins of trash!

shareIt is not a bad film, on the surface it is a story about the simple story of the "Stone", but i felt that the way the movie was shot, the director/writer wanted to say something utterly missing in Chinese cinema, perhaps a deep satire that only a careful observer can perceive.
Is it by Chance that they choose the City of Chongqing? is it by chance that the entire movie is in the Chongqing dialect? and not in the "Official" mandarin? is it also by Chance that so many scenes in the movie seemed visually so disgustingly hideous? why not make big, beautiful pictures, that Zhang Yimou makes? what is the director trying to do here?
Before you think about this movie more, please don't make such idiotic, immature statements like "this movie is bad".
I always felt that there is something really deep going on in there, that only somone who understands the present predicament of China would realize.
For the sake of Chinese Cinema, for the sake of China, more films like this should be made!
