Of course Shin....
Love Shin the most !!

Yul was so sweet and kind to her but they just didn't have the chemistry Chae-kyung and Shin did. So my vote goes for SHIN! xD They are the unbeatable couple. ^.^

reply

what chemistry you talking about????the most part of the series where he ignores her, made her cry, kiss another girl??? Yul is the man, he was there all the time..it sucks that he cant have Chae-kyung!

reply

Well I think that Shin and Caijing DID look pretty good together, like when they were teasing each other... But I mean, Shin only started liking her in the last quarter/third of the series, so you can understand why there was no chemistry in most of Princess Hours. -There's no way he could have chemistry with a girl he doesn't like. But you have to admit, they looked so sweet whenever they got along (as a love interest or as a friend).

The thing that sort of determines it for me of who should have been Caijing's husband, was in both daydreams of Shin or Yul as her house-working husband. I thought it was pretty funny and cute (in the dream) when Shin was doing all the housework and looking after the kids while Caijing. However, I thought it was too weird and unrealistic when Yul was in that dream - I KNOW that Yul is supposed to fit that area more because he can cook and is homely etc, but that section was just... ugh. I just didn't like it. But maybe it's partially because Yul's actor can't really act for that part. I mean, I didn't enjoy it either when Caijing and Yul were jamming it up in the music hall. Although Caijing looked like she was enjoying herself, with Yul it looked so forced. Eg. when Caijing was playing that song on the piano and Yul points at her like 'cool! yeah, go rock it out!' For me, Yul's actor (sorry I forgot his name) can only do the 'soft-spoken, sweet guy that I want for a boyfriend' - the comical stuff is best left alone for him.

Don't get me wrong - I LOVE YUL. But more as a puppy-love, boyfriend that I would want.

Shin is more of a husband for me! :D

And they're both hot in their own way.

Ok i've been posting in this forum about this subject alot because i've never seen a series/movie or anything where a person like Yul isnt the winner. Must of you chose Shin because of the much later part of the series. Characteristic of Shin; doesnt matter if its his wife or not, this guy treats people like sh*t. For an example, he doesnt treat the internal affair guy good, treats his wife badly before and after..its his attitude, his personality, everything. Now i'm a guy and i know that even if you dont like the person or your with the person for a wrong reasons you still dont treat them like sh*t. First real man makes a woman cry. I grew up repecting woman, my mom taught me how to act nice around the ladies and treat the woman with respect. But how could you ladies like Shin? For an example, its like the month of january Shin will treat you guys like sh*t (make you cry and sad) and theres that 1 day in that month where he acts nice and you hug and this a nd that. And thats it! You know what i'm saying? I dont know Korean girls well but you guys obviously like jerks if your all picking Shin..Ok now talking about Yul. Ok i know there are some flaws about Yul. I'm not saying hes perfect. But, this guy did everything right when it came to the princess. HE POUR OUT HIS FREAKIN HEART! HE LOVES HER, and he did everything a guy should do. Ok so the poster who posted before me said that Shin is more of a husband...yeahh...in America we call those husband wifebeaters..Really think about this..dont make your judgement on the outcome of the show...really i dont think the princess should be with both of them..Shin is the guy you girls would say....Why the *beep* am i with him!! and Yul is the type you girls date and then you guys split after the love is gone...well wtf i know right? but i hope the producer make something out of Yul's character...get him a hot chick..like the girl from MY SASSY GIRL!!! ok thanks for reading..

LOL. I wasn't expecting such a heartfelt response! Nice to know you're so into it as well. :)

Firstly I'm not Korean. I don't know any of the language and I have never been there. Pfft. Just had to say that.

How the hell is Shin a WIFEBEATER?! Oh yeah, he totally beats Caijing all the time. The only thing he's done is NOT ANSWERED HER CALLS. -Totally violent and abusive right?

You have to say, for a husband, Shin WAS GOOD. Lover... Maybe not so since he didn't really like her to begin with. (I guess you're right when you say that Shin supporters liked him later in the show). But he protected her all the time! Even from his friends! Like the time that he went horse-riding or whatever - he defended Caijing and told them to piss off. ...In a slightly more polite manner than what I just said. Look at the way he said that (freaking awesome) speech about their divorce in that interview. What did Yul do? How did he protect Caijing? Oh yeah that's right - even though he knew that hanging out with her (when he started having feelings for her) was morally wrong, he STILL hung out with her. Hell, he hugged[i/] her AND he [i]kissed her. TWICE. The second time he did that he got photographed and wouldn't you know it? It hit the newspaper stands like wildfire. Who had to deal with all the sh!t surrounding that rumour? CAIJING. Did Yul come out and say it was his fault; that HE was the one that kissed her? No. So Caijing was lucky enough to get bad press and an earfull of the mother to last her a lifetime. Sure, Shin almost got the same treatment except he never made any moves on that other girl (the evil ballerina girl). Not to mention in literally EVERY k-drama/movie, the guy (who is pursued by the evil second woman after being jilted) ALWAYS GOES BACK TO HER AT ONE POINT. The dragging goes ON and ON, where she does some stupid idiotic act (a.k.a health, lying, false documents, bribing others etc.) to get back the guy. And in the majority of other k-dramas he does hang out with her after the stupid, idiotic act... ...Leading to more dragging on. SHINMEISTER DIDN'T. NO. Even though evil ballerina took anti-depressants and whatnot, when he went to visit her it was a big. FAT. NO. He told her to STOP it and just walked away from her.

Yul also STILL went to see her even though it was against Caijing's HUSBAND'S wishes. Now in my books that counts as bad. Yul was also the one who gave Caijing all those secret phone calls about divorcing Shin. You think Shin didn't notice? Of course he did! Even though that Shin's WIFE was freaking having heart-to-hearts with your BROTHER (ok, not brothers but cousins, same difference) about DIVORCING him. Shin never actually stopped her from this, until right before the interview - where he pleaded her to re-think what she was going to say.

Sure, Yul was a sweetheart too. The time that he took her to the place where they screamed their pain/anger/whatever out was a really touching moment. And also when he pretended he did all that dirty work to protect his (yet again, uber biotch) mother. He is a really good son.

OK neither of the guyts was perfect. But what do you expect?! Shin was suddenly shoved into this new crown prince position, his mum happens to be an uber robot (who the hell calls your mum Queen mother or whatever?! Even if you're a prince - you're FREAKING FIVE YEARS OLD) and his uncle died. (Not as hardcore as Yul though, his dad died.) Shin didn't want to be Prince. Ever. Not to mention he's 19. Young and reckless. You gotta expect some anger to be in there!

You think Yul would be any better if he'd taken the throne? He was a little stuck-up sh!t when he was crown prince, remember the way that he treated Shin?

But I guess this isn't really about Yul. It's about why I like Shin. OK. Honestly, Yul is hotter (not that this would really apply to mike, who I am assuming is straight - if I'm wrong, I take it all back) and he does have his charm. Sweet, soft-spoken and good natured. Perfect right?

Shin is more strong, silent type. :D

I've said this before:
Yul is a marshmellow. Sweet and soft, not dangerous.

Shin is a rock. But with a marshmellow inside him, and once you get to know Shin and you dig a little deeper, he's really sweet.

Or:

Yul is kinda too soft. I mean, I can't imagine him standing up in a fight for me! He'd get pounded unless he's against some powerless weak person.

Shin is a man's man. ...though I do have to say his costumes say otherwise. But I think he should be with Caijing because after all, she loves him and he does love her too.

Anyway, I have written a freaking novel. Don't expect me to make any sense because I cannot be bothered re-reading everything, and I know I am probably contradicting myself numerous times. Not to mention it's 1:11am here too. My bad. Ugh, you know, reading your post actually made me think of all the stuff that Yul has done WRONG. I never really noticed that before. Now I like Yul less. But I guess his good looks will make up for that.

OK. I'm over it. No more typing.

hahaha nice pearlli..i like that response, yes the wifebeater thing was totally out of perportion. I"m at episode 17 right now, but i already knows what is going to happen. From what i'm seeing right now is that Yul thinks Shin is a bad guy for the reason he treats The princess. AM i right on this one? For the reason whenever he sees the princess she is either crying, sad or going to become sad or crying and he is trying to comfort her. ok my life story, my ex girlfriend who i'm very close with, is going out with this *beep* who treats her like sh*t. (As Shin did with the princess in the beginning). So me from the outside like Yul tries to comfort her and ask her why she puts up with this and that, and everytime i see him he either grabs her or yells at her. From what i see Yul doesnt know their in love yet....(remember i'm in episode 17)He havent seen them happy, he seen them get force into same bedroom, her cry but he never seen Shin and the princess happy together. So you cant blame Yul because i reallly feel the guy as he was like me at a point. OHhh by the way Shin backed up the princess liked once? There were countless times where she get made fun of and he just walks away.

Pearlli..you got interesting thoughts..nice to hear from a woman perspective

reply

well this is a tough one.

yul seems like someone you'd fall in love with because of his kindness, but is really selfish when it comes to issues of the royal family. shin is the mere definition of the word "jerk" but is really sincere about chaekyung when speaking to the elders, and provides for her.

it's really a toss up!

but seeing that this is fiction, I really did fall for shin in the end.

so yeah...

cast my vote for shin. :-)

lol :D we can go on and on and on about something like this :P

reply

I am not korean and i don't understang how korean girls rate guys but i've got to shin has got it all. i loved yul and i did cry when he realised he couldn't get chae-kyung but shin is for me

reply

Well...for me, the most suitable man for Chae-Kyung will be Shin, although I love Yul and he looked so much adorable with her but I have to admit, a girl like Chae-Kyung, needed someone strong ang able to defend her whenever she needed one...Yul, unfortunately, although he have a sweet, nice and sweetheart face, he doesn't have the enough "manly" look...

Despite loving Yul, I have to say, Shin's the best man for Chae-Kyung and she loved him...that's important...although if I was given the chance to write this story, I would let Yul with Chae-Kyung...after he changed his weak appearance to more masculine and smart...not boyish and sweetheart look...

reply

Lol, we don't live in the cavemen era. I don't think "big, strong, and manly" are important criteria for choosing a husband because I don't expect him to be fighting off wild animals or anything. A life partner needs to be caring, sensitive to your needs, respectful etc. Yul is all of that while Lee Shin is, well, cold and inconsiderate of everyone around him. It doesn't matter if Yul isn't Mr. Macho- that's what bodyguards are for :).

reply

To me Shin seems to be a bit abusive and treats his wife like a doormat.. I mean the guy doesn't have any remorse for his action.. Speaking from someone who's planning to go into domestic violence prevention field.. I would recommend anyone not to pick someone like Shin in real life.. Then again it's a K-Drama not in real life.. For some reason in Asian dramas they always prefer the badboys..

PS: There's a difference between badboy and a rotten one .. To me Shin is the 2nd one..

If you see episode 14 you will see why Yul liked Chaegyuan.. at first he wanted her because she's supposed to be his, then he wanted her because if she was his wife he would never treat her this bad, now he simply likes her... even on episode 21 he risked his reputation to help CG where Shin was just standing idly by.. If you really like someone shouldn't you be willing to do anything to help them out?

Also Shin isn't Mr. Macho either.. He cried when he was hit by Chaegyung's brother and got scared of a lizard in Thailand when he was with HR .. What a wuss

I say Shin all the way!!! I don't know what you guys all saw in Yul, but I don't think he's all that great....
Shin was pretty cold to Chae-Kyung in the beginning, but he slowly started to warm up to her... True, she would make requests that he would refuse at first, but he would always go ask the Elders for her. Really, so he's a bad guy for trying to please her? I think the only problem I saw was he had a hard time opening up to her..... But, in the end, THANK GOD he did!!!
Yul, I agreed loved her, but he did it selfishly. Chae-Kyung is one those girls who is really open and dependable as friend. To him, he was supposed to be married to her first. However, he was ambitious in thinking he could steer her feelings towards him. He always tells her that Shin likes to be by himself, doesn't like to be disturbed....At the same time, Shin wanted Chae-Kyung by his side to comfort him. Yul keeps telling Chae-Kyung that Shin and Hyo-Rin's love is stronger than hers and Shin.... Really??? Tell me it isn't obvious that he is trying to sabotage their relationship for his benefit... for him to get the girl.....
I rewatched this show again, and, tried and true, I am a Shin fan! I can't sympathize with Yul with all that happens to him in the end...

reply

At the beginning I might have said Yool for the obvious reasons, Shin was a jerk and Yool was nice and compassionate. But when Yool told Chae-Kyung about his feelings and she told him she didn't feel the same way, he said that he would repress his feelings so that they could be friends again. But then he keeps bringing up his feelings or making things awkward anyway! That's where he really lost my support, he didn't respect her in the matter. Besides, I like Shin when he loosens up towards the end lol

reply

I'm surprised at all the Yul fans out there. Sure he's the Sensitive Man that we all want, but the movie shows him as manipulative as his mother in getting what he wants (Chae-Kyung), even when she has clearly stated she loves her husband, jerk that he is.

A person is strongly influenced by his childhood environment, and Palace Life is oppressive and bound by rules/regulations. It is no wonder that Shin always walks around with a stick up his ass. Yul in comparison grew up in another country without such restraints. Western countries definitely emphasize equal rights and take value in emotions/feelings, whereas Asians don't prioritize such weak attributes. Duty. Honor. Tradition.

In the later episodes, Shin's opinion of his wife changes, to the point that she is the sunshine of his life. It would be out of character for him to flip 180 degrees and take up the qualities we appreciate in Yul. Shin improves with his love and appreciation of Chae-Kyung. He is the better man.

Yul just gets annoying after awhile. As someone previously stated, he's going after a married woman. I don't care how true his love for her is - he obviously doesn't respect her enough to back off when she's not interested in anything more than being friends, almost as if her feelings mean nothing. He's focused only on his own obsession.

reply

I definitely thought Shin was sexier and better looking. sure he was a jackass at the beginning, but he was just going through the motions and he was brought up that way...Yul turned out to be very pathetic and rather creepy, I felt sorry for him, but geez, I don't get this great love he had for Chaegyoung...by refusing to let her go and letting it drag on the way it did even after she explicitly stated she loved Shin, regardless, was so incredibly selfish of him. from the very beginning Yul said he only wanted her because she was originally 'meant' for him. sure, Shin wasn't as sensitive as Yul was, but by the end, I thought he evolved into a way better person than Yul, one who didn't have to resort of manipulative measures to get what he wants...cold arrogant Shin any day over Yul!

reply

Shin, Yul was very very bad, and Chae-Kyung loved Shin not Yul.
