'Fag' Board

does any one know what kind of board Alex bought after he lost his old one. His friend calls it a "fag" board.

it looked like an Alien Workshop, which is really respected by skateboarders. It might have been some thing real mainstream?

i think jared said, "i cant have you riding a fag board", not that alex's new board IS fag board.

I agree with the above poster. he probably just saw that it was a new board, and didn't see it what brand it was.

when I first saw this scene (and I'm not a skater at all. I have a crummy used board that my friend was going to replace), I assumed that "fag board" meant it wasn't worn in yet. Just like guitar strings have to be worn in before it starts to sound "natural", you know?

I just watched this film this morning and that's the same thing I thought when the camera stayed on Jared's face in slow motion. I think he had a crush on Alex too.

"Hey guys, thanks for eating all the macaroni!"

I disagree. The reason I think they show the close up shops of Jared for so long is that we get to see Alex's paranoia. It is like Jared is keeping a close eye on him watching him skeptically and like something is wrong (although this is not actually the case, it seems so from a paranoid person's perspective). Notice Van Sant uses the same type of sequence when Alex's girl teen friend is talking to him about the newspaper. She makes a comment like "you're reading sports in the metro" and then the slow motion closeup sequence shows up. It is what we see from Alex's perspective and the friend Rachel has the look of major doubt as to Alex's actual intentions. Like I said this may not be the case, but it just the going ons in the mind of a paranoid person ridden with guilt.
