I think you're on to something. I've always felt that gay porn appealed to lesbians because it lets them eroticize someone without having to be eroticized themselves. There's something very empowering about that dynamic, which is probably girl/girl porn is so popular with men.

I think the point the film is trying to make is that sexuality can be a lot more complex then "I like boobs or I like penis". For many people, being in a lesbian relationship has more to do with their ability to relate and love someone of a similar gender to them, not just because they like tits. You can be a lesbian and be turned on by males having sex. Straight guys enjoy guy/girl porn. Straight girls enjoy girl/girl. And who is to say that Julianne and Annette's characters are not bisexual?

I think the film was decent and while the plot with a sexual relationship between Paul and Jules is somewhat questionable, we have to accept that people that identify themselves as straight or gay do become involved with members of the opposite sex and it obviously confuses people.
Seems to piss people off even. I still maintain that whether straight or gay, the definition that works for me is that people have a perference but it's not always concrete. Sexuality is obviously more fluid than this.

Well there IS the Kinsey Scale which measures sexuality on a scale from 0-6 with 0 being completely attracted to the opposite sex and 6 being completely attracted to the same sex. Most people are something between those

Actually, some gay men apparently do watch lesbian porn. And sometimes it can be for erotic value, but most of the time it's obviously not. Now of course, most gay men don't watch lesbian porn, just like most gay women don't watch male/male porn either. And the ones who do, are not watching it to be turned on per se, they watch it because lesbian porn for the most part is actually quite sexist; heterosexual porn is also sexist. Hey you don't have to be sexually attracted to female genitalia. But to go as far as to say it's the "scariest thing you've ever seen"? That's pretty messed up. Your basically bashing your own body. The human body is nothing to be ashamed of. And not every vagina is the same you know, just like not every penis is the same. Every private part is uniquely different.
