Never heard of this being a cliche before. Is it really a "thing"?
It's not like she writes gay anthems or something.
Not exactly comparable to Judy Garland or Madonna.

It's like saying only lesbians listen to Bob Dylan.

LOL I can assure you I am not gay, I am in love with the female species, AND I am a huge Joni Mitchell fan, as a matter of fact I thought she was quite beautiful in her younger days.

Perhaps this was intended as a joke, her lyrics are quite "sensitive" she bares her entire soul. Maybe the intention of that line is that gay men are more sensitive ?
