Sounds oddly familiar.

Hmm...I think I seen a movie this---oh yeah, it was called 1408.

Is it just me or does this SOUND like a total rip.
I thought it was another one of those asylum movies when I first saw the title.

Wow. 1408 was a story created by Stephen King so it was first.

But, as I said, the stories are not similar so it doesn't make any difference really... unless you mean they are similar in the sense that they have supernatuiral events attached to a physical location, but there are thousands of stories which fall into that category going back hundreds, if not thousands, of years.

OK, 1408 may have been written first (not sure about that) but The Legend of Hell House was written before that! and that fact's just as relevant ;)

Yea, any connection between 1408 and 1303 is just a bag of wind. They have nothing to do with one another. Nothing. NOTHING.

Clearly somebody saw some digits in a title corresponding to a room number -- a room that was haunted, and immediately thought one was ripping off the other.

Clearly the original poster has no idea what he (or she) is talking about.

the beginning of the movie though seemed like the grudge.

I've seen both movies and they're not the same. Yes, they share similar concepts. But anyway, who the hell cares? Hollywood rips off foreign films ALL THE TIME and they usually are terrible substitutes for the original.
