Were they really hired by her ex-husband?

This movie leaves some questions unanswered. I think this is the intention of the director maybe to add to a feeling of alienation or uneasiness.

One of those unanwered questions is this: Were they really hired by her ex-husband?

At one point the woman asks if the men were hired by her exhusband.
The Jesús character answers this question with a simple yes.
But still, was this the truth or did he even understand the question?

Maybe this question is not relevant, but i'd like to hear some opinions.

In a previous scene, Fausto tells Jesus something like "Let's just take that gringo's money and throw away the gun", implying that some 'gringo' (John, the ex-husband, I assume) asigned them with an unpleasant task and provided them with the 'tool'.

What I wonder about is of they were actually sent to kill the woman or just to scare her... In the final bathroom scene, after the assassination takes place, Jesus asks Fausto "Dude, why did you kill her?", meaning, maybe, that they could had let her live or, maybe, that the one supossed to kill her was Jesus.

Anyway, great film. Amat Escalante is one of the best Mexican filmmakers, don't you think?

according to the original script, they were hired to finish her ("Karen" is my sister). unfortunately, all scenes featuring the ex were cut from the final version of the film. i believe one of those was a "transaction" scene.

Yes, they were hired by the husband (John) to kill the woman. My only qualm about this movie is the fact that I find quite unlikely hiring a couple of workers with no experience at all, in order to carry out the "deed". Makes no sense to me. IMO a "pro" would be always hired for pragmatic and effectivity reasons.

I guess you've never seen any shows on rea life murders? Most people don't walk around with a contact list of professional hitters.
