July or September?

Does anyone know if this is being extended, if so how many more episodes?(Awhile ago it was reported 80% of this had been recorded which seems to contradict added episodes.)

Thanks!

I will try to find out next week when I meet with someone from the network. However, the problem is that the corner offices of the networks play these things very close to the vest because both of these networks are paranoid about competition.

Telemundo historically makes long novelas when they are successful. PASION DE GAVILANES and EL CUERPO DEL DESEO each almost ran a full year.

reply

Or October or November? Seems that is how long it will be.
Thanks Venus-25 for trying to find out. I just keep reading extensions, now someone said Rios talked about November. So I don't know?

Has Zorro been that successful? I was wondering if this has something to do with Estrada's novela coming in the fall.
Thanks!

reply

Sorry it's taken so long for me to get back to you about this.

November would make sense in view of the length of their other productions. I think they are learning just how long they can make a story before it becomes obvious that they extended it because the series was successful. It's doing well for this network, but Telemundo still has a long way to go before it equals the audience of Univision. That's why they're stealing actors from Televisa whenever they can.

Thanks for answering. I also think the rumors of Televisa being more involved in this production and using this as "back door" is in play.

Also if they truly want to come against Univision they need to expand their market. NBC needs to package Telemundo with their other channels. They have been building their base now is time to let it grow! Zorro was a perfect way to do this which they missed!

reply

Telemundo's audience can grow, but it will take time.

Mexican immigrants gravitate to Univision because of the Televisa programs. They feel familiar and "like home." Telemundo ignored the Mexican audience for a long time because they could not find a good Mexican source for programming. Starting in 2003 with PASION DE GAVILANES they began courting them. I heard anecdotal accounts of Mexicans looking at the show and saying "Well, they don't sound Mexican, but it's a good story." Now some of the other programs are doing well on satellite TV in Mexico.

ZORRO will do well when it gets there; there are a few Televisa faces in it and Christian Meier is a big enough name internationally to attract viewers.

reply

I understand the "feel at home" factor but I also know that there are disputes between Televisa and Univision allowing a behind the secnes entrance.

I know I don't have complete knowledge on the "going ons" but Zorro seemed like a perfect vehicle to get Telemundo established not just aboard but furthering the market in the States! 28 states are left out of their broadcasts, and there are growing communities who want to see this programming willing to switch if they had an option. I just think it is a miss when Zorro is so easily recognizable and a waste on NBC-Universals ability to help the child to do better. They use their channels to cross promote so why can't they do this now? I thought that making a production so understood was the point, to reach out farther. Why not take this the whole way?

So many people don't know this exists who might watch and there are those who do but have no way to watch, makes me ask what was the point? JMHO

reply

I know.

Some people get satellite TV specifically for the Spanish channels. NBC needs to do more to promote Telemundo's programming, but they might fear losing Anglo viewers if said Anglo viewers knew how hot Spanish-language programs are.

When I use wallpapers from novelas as forum sigs I get tons of comments on how hot the actors are. That says something.

reply

At this moment NBC needs to use everything since their Primtime line-up is having trouble.

I guess I am just Upset that they produce a program, were they use not only a well-known character, then use a well-known pop singer, then use their Universal HD channel and use CC1 for English caps all indications you want more than the regular Telemundo base yet they do Nothing To Make It Available, even if that means using sister channels(Something they do for other programs)!

Lastly Upset because My family and I really wanted to see this! We aren't the only ones! IF bottom line is ratings for AD dollars isn't it defeastest to leave half the country off? Which is why I don't understand the point of making a Zorro novela which will draw viewership, just out of curiousity, yet remains unavailible to most!

I am sure some people might switch, but NBC doesn't actually lose because they will be going to something they own which ultimately helps thier whole company!
Plus this is the day of VCR's, DVR's and TIVO people will still tune in to their broadcast if only to record it.

Yes, I know satellite offers more Spanish channels but that is not an option for many people. Plus what is the purpose of having a powerful Mother company if she does nothing to promote her child?

reply

The satellite doesn't have cc for Telemundo. We tried it and had to switch back to cable because we couldn't get English CC.

I think if NBC would promote Telemundo on the English channels and let people know it is in CC they would get a lot of viewers like me. It was by accident I found out about the novellas in cc English. I don't speak Spanish and a friend got me started by asking me to record for her when she was out of town and I got hooked on the novellas. Cuerpo del Deseo, La Tormenta and Land of Passions. I really like the fact they don't go on for years and have an ending. The actors and actresses are all new to me and I just adore watching them. Well, except for the constant repetitive dialoge in Marina. That is the worst writing I have ever seen. Weeks on end with the same statements repeated over and over until I could gag. It's too bad too, because I like the story and the actors, but somebody should really do something about the writing. lol

Anyway, sorry for the rant. lol

reply

No problem.

Univision doesn't do English cc, but the Televisa productions don't suffer from the constant repeats. Learn Spanish online for free and you can watch anything:

I just read that the filming is to end July 7 making this end late July or early August. Has anyone else read this?

TIA!

reply

I have read that the final air date is July 27th, 2007. They have already announced on Telemundo that Zorro is in it's "Final Chapters". I haven't read anything to confirm that there will be additional episodes, but I sure would love it if they extended this show.

It's so dammed good!

According to OR and CM they filmed 122 capitulos but Telemundo edited many so they were 90 mins. giving a total of 112 capitulos. Those "10" were divided among the episodes equaling the 122 they talked about.
