There are no gypsies in 1800s California. That really bothers me.

What, the producers couldnt get darker skinned colombians to potray native americans? Or hey, here's a thought. Since they're filming in Colombia why not use native americans in colombia for the roles.

God, ALWAYS with that lame Gitana song. Why is the focus on Esmeralda and not on Zorro?

what a *beep* insult to the literary legend of Zorro. Johnston McCulley must be spinning in his grave. First that lame-ass anime in Japan, then this futuristic *beep* Zorro Generation Z and now this soap opera.

What bothered me the most was Esmeralda discovering that Diego was Zorro. I mean it sort of removes a posible central conflict.

Actually it opens up other possibilities.

In the Disney series, Don Alejandro found out at some point and it wasn't a big surprise saved for the end. There are movie versions in which he doesn't know until the last scene.

As for the other, Telemundo has been in love with gypsies since the excellent GITANAS a couple of years ago. I think they're overdoing the multiculturalism a bit in this series.

Actually, they're saying he is mestizo. In the original he is pure European. Like every actor who has ever played him.

i havent seen the complette telenovela but saw a few parts on Youtube
and i agree with you this not a good soap opera about zorro
here are my reasons

1 i dont like the actor who played zorro
he doesnt have the charisma the zorros have

2 Zorro´s Girlfriend
Marlene Favela is beautifull but not stuning like Catherine Zeta Jones in The mask of zorro or Linda Darnell was in the mark of zorro

and why esmeralda?

everyone knows that zorro never thad a girlfriend with that name
Diego´s girlfriends were Lolita Quinetro and Esperanza.

I feel the same way you feel, least I did with the show Smallville but I stuck it out till the end just in the hopes that it would get better. Judging from what you say, I am guessing this show won't get better but still I gotta stick it out for a while just for the Hell of it. Hey it isn't like Zorro and the Gay Blade.
