What is Andy Lau chewing?

I presume he is chewing tobacco. Am I right?

No, he is eating candy. He is diabetic, but craves sugar/sweet things. Examples:
- Nick brings him candy to the hospital (bag of See's candies).
- He chews candy when introducing Nick to the wharehouse boss.
- He is adding sugar when having tea/coffee with Nick toward the end of the movie (Nick stops him from having more than one packet of sugar).
