Anyone know what the title means? Does it refer to the conversation towards the end, where Matt explains to Hannah that anti depressants create a floor for depressed people to climb out of the hole they're in with, and Hannah gets out of this hole by using other people as a set of stairs?

I've always wondered about the idea behind the title too.
Your thought is pretty good, but I'm a little more inclined to think the title might refer to Hannah's tendency to duck out of relationships--i.e., she sneaks out, she "takes the stairs".
I'd like to hear other people's thoughts on this question as well.
I like your idea, eyeforbeauty. I read reviews that explain it as Hannah doing things the hard way, ie taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
