I respect your opinions, but I say this movie is in the same vein as Young Frankstein, Blazing Saddles, Pink Pather(s), Caddyshack, etc. Goofy, low-ball humor... *but on purpose*. It's toungue in double-cheek. Another gem of this movie is all the musical people parodying famous musicians and music history. The Ravi Shankar/Beatles scene alone.... Lol.

As a personal note, I used to hate Caddyshack and American Lampoon... But as I got older, I liked the "smart stupid" aspect of it all.

Cheech and Chong? Animals House? *meh*. I respect them for what they are and Belushi was a comedy pioneer... But I don't care for them.

I will also say that most of the 2nd half of this movie was *chock full* of continual 60s/70s music and artist references/parodies, the more of that era in music you know, the funnier it will be.

So this will seem bizarrely pointless to people who don't know who, for example, Ravi Shankar, June Carter, Donovan, etc are. And their political views.

Great point! We know it's a parady of Walk the Line, but it has so much other 60s and 70s references. You also just have to like crazy, goofy humor to appreciate it! If I want something serious, I'll read the news and wonder how much of it is accurate. For movies, I'll take crazy, sometimes even senseless, humor.

My adult son is a professional musician, and he loves this movie. It's not the greatest movie ever made, but it's funny in my opinion. After a long day at work I just need to laugh sometimes.

I studied music appreciation, I have a huge knowledge of music history and of course the 60's and 70's. I know good humor as well, and this is NOT good humor, it's simply not clever. The "in your face" representations which you speak of don't make this a good comedy. This over-rated type of humor is what's wrong with Hollywood. Caddy shack was clever and well done, it is a masterpiece compared to this garbage.

I will NEVER understand why people say things such as, "I know good humor as well".
There's nothing factual (besides your education) about your entire post therefore it's YOUR opinion.
What you may not find humorous, others will. And vice versa. You are not, and will never be the almighty judge of what's funny and what is not. Sorry.
