I've heard of the Amber Alert before, but I was under the assumption that it was in response to something that happened prior to the mid 90s. I am roughly around the same age as Amber, and I'm a little shocked that there wasn't already a National System like the Amber alert prior to 96 when her kidnapping occurred.
Just maybe if there a alert program in early 90s maybe Amber still be a alive?

There was a center for it that was founded after the Adam Walsh murder, but the Amber Hagerman murder really set off a chain of laws so that people could get the news out so that more people were aware. That was the problem: people weren't aware that Amber was missing until the 10 o'clock news and by that time, as the corner said, she was already dead.
