when exactly does this movie take place? the release date was 2006, but i know it's way before then. so why was nicole saving for an mp3 player? how much time after amber was killed was the system in place? i didn't think mp3 players were that popular still back in 2000-2001. they still seemed kind of new then

The story moves back and forth between Amber's mother having the system set up and a story about a girl named Nicole who was abducted in 2002. The MP3 players, were existed in 2002 but were new.

In 2002, an Ipod cost around $300 USD.
